We serve clients including USACE, NAVFAC, AFCEC, and other DoD agencies, delivering electrical and power systems for mission-critical facilities such as command centers, data centers, operational facilities, and energy-resilient installations.   Our primary areas of focus are: Architecture/Engineering (A/E) Services, Defense Program, Design/Build, and Classified. The OpportunityThe Senior Electrical Engineer is an experienced technical specialist and project level leader who independently executes and oversees electrical engineering work on medium to high complexity Mission Critical projects. This role applies advanced engineering judgment, provides technical direction to project teams, and serves as a key contributor to project execution, client coordination, and mentoring of junior engineers.    The ideal candidate will be located or willing to relocate to one of the following: Kansas City (Overland Park, KS); D.C. (Arlington, VA); Denver (CO); Atlanta (GA); or Dallas (TX).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
  • This position supports Black & Veatch project work with the U.S. Federal Government. As a result, U.S. citizenship is a requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering mission critical facilities, power reliability projects, or Federal/DoD infrastructure.
  • Proven experience with: Specifications development  Review and resolution of RFIs and submittals  Grounding, lightning protection, and power system studies
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as: Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam  Electrical analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM)
  • Experience or specialization in Mission Critical differentiators such as microgrids, controls, communications, secure facilities, or energy resilience.
  • Advanced technical judgment and problem solving ability.
  • Ability to lead discipline level execution with minimal oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client facing interactions.
  • Effective collaborator and mentor within multidisciplinary, Federal project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform and lead electrical engineering work of medium to high complexity, applying advanced engineering principles, Mission Critical standards, and Federal design criteria.
  • Design, analyze, and oversee Mission Critical electrical systems, including: Low and medium voltage power distribution  Standby and prime power generation systems  UPS systems, grounding, and lightning protection  Lighting systems  Power system reliability and redundancy strategies
  • Prepare, review, and approve complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and technical studies.
  • Perform and/or oversee advanced electrical analyses, which may include: Load flow, short circuit, and voltage drop analysis  Protective device coordination and arc flash studies  Generator sizing, system reliability, and resiliency evaluations
  • Provide technical review and quality oversight of work produced by Staff and Associate Engineers.
  • Serve as a technical lead or discipline lead for electrical scope on Federal Mission Critical projects supporting clients such as USACE, NAVFAC, and AFCEC.
  • Apply strong working knowledge of Federal workflows, codes, and standards, including DesignBidBuild and Construction Phase Services.
  • Lead or significantly support resolution of RFIs, submittals, field issues, and constructability challenges.
  • Coordinate electrical scope with other disciplines, construction partners, and client stakeholders.
  • Assist project leadership with defining technical scope, execution strategies, schedules, and risk mitigation approaches.
  • Ensure compliance with the Black & Veatch Quality Program and applicable Federal quality requirements for assigned projects.
  • Manage assigned electrical engineering scope to meet budget, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve technical risks within the electrical discipline; escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Support continuous improvement, lessons learned capture, and technical standardization efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Associate and Staff Engineers, supporting their professional development.
  • Share Mission Critical expertise, Federal lessons learned, and best practices across project teams.
  • Participate in Mission Critical solution discipline initiatives, including: Standards and guidance development  Technical training and knowledge sharing efforts  Culture and teambuilding activities
  • May support business development and pursuit activities through technical input and proposal support.
