About The Position

JBT Marel is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer II to join its Electrical Engineering team in Chalfont, Pennsylvania, supporting the Formova Division. The role is responsible for electrical design, development, documentation, and troubleshooting for mobile autonomous industrial vehicles (AGVs/AMRs) and the automation systems used in customer facilities. Systems span 12VDC through 480VAC and include vehicle power distribution, harnesses, drives, batteries and chargers, navigation and safety sensors, and site infrastructure. The engineer will also direct and review external engineering contractors supporting development and customer projects. The position works across electrical design and development, diagnostics and safety compliance, documentation and testing, contractor coordination, and multidisciplinary collaboration. It is a hybrid role involving office, manufacturing, and customer-facility environments, with approximately 15% travel for activities such as AGV commissioning and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Robotics Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience reading and designing automation control panels and electrical harnesses using AutoCAD; experience with mobile vehicles or equipment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DC vehicle power systems, batteries, and motor drives.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or standard AutoCAD for schematics, panel layouts, and 2D/3D wire-harness routing documentation.
  • Hands-on experience applying Design FMEA to electrical systems and harnesses.
  • Deep understanding of harness architecture, including connectors, terminals, wire gauges, shielding, conduits, and mechanical protection components.
  • Understanding of automated industrial equipment control systems and control architecture, primarily low-voltage DC, including servo/actuator power distribution, sensor integration, and panel-to-actuator cable management for dynamic motion.
  • Ability to work in office, manufacturing, and customer-facility environments, including around electrical equipment, industrial automation, and operating autonomous vehicles.
  • Ability to travel approximately 15% of the time, including customer site visits for AGV commissioning and support.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical design experience on AGVs, AMRs, forklifts, or other mobile industrial vehicles.
  • Experience with safety-rated control design to ISO 13849 and CAN tools such as Vector CANalyzer or PCAN.
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery, BMS, and charger design, and RF network infrastructure.
  • Experience managing external engineering contractors, including statements of work and deliverable reviews.
  • Experience with harness design packages, Creo Electrical, and Windchill.

Responsibilities

  • Design AGV electrical systems, including onboard power distribution, wiring harnesses, vehicle control panels, and traction, steering, and load-handling drive interfaces.
  • Design and specify lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, battery management systems, and automatic or opportunity charging systems.
  • Integrate navigation sensors, vehicle networks, and RF/wireless infrastructure connecting fleets to plant systems.
  • Design, troubleshoot, and debug vehicle and site control panels operating from 12VDC through 480VAC, applying NFPA 79, NEC, and UL 508A requirements.
  • Support coding and debugging of PLCs, vehicle controllers, HMIs, barcode readers, RFID, and photoelectric and ultrasonic sensors.
  • Support site power distribution and facility interfaces, including chargers, doors, conveyors, and elevators, for AGV deployments.
  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting, CAN bus diagnostics, and signal integrity checks on vehicles and site equipment.
  • Read and update electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring layouts.
  • Lead safety system validations and configure laser scanners, safety fields, bumper sensors, and emergency-stop circuits to meet required performance levels.
  • Create and maintain schematics and bills of materials, process ECNs, and update redlines to reflect as-built configurations.
  • Write purchase specifications for electrical materials and maintain technical notes and engineering records.
  • Lead or contribute to Design FMEAs for vehicle and panel electrical systems and track mitigation actions to completion.
  • Develop electrical test methods and support vehicle validation, FAT/SAT, and field troubleshooting of deployed fleets.
  • Define contractor scope, requirements, and deliverables; help prepare statements of work; and evaluate proposals and quotes.
  • Onboard contractors to company design standards, CAD templates, part libraries, and Windchill/ECN processes.
  • Coordinate contractor priorities and schedules, and review deliverables for accuracy and standards compliance before release.
  • Protect design data and intellectual property, and provide contractor performance feedback to engineering management.
  • Work independently with limited direction as a contributing member of multidisciplinary project teams on increasingly complex projects.
  • Translate vehicle and automation requirements into practical designs with attention to detail, and perform other duties as assigned.
