About The Position

IMEG, a large design consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer/Designer for its Minneapolis, MN office. Requirements

  • Adept in the technical aspects of one’s discipline; advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI).
  • Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu.
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others.
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise.
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships.
  • Strong training and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays.
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership traits in the Project Management career path.
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred (for Project Management path).
  • 8 years of experience preferred (for Project Management path).

Responsibilities

  • Provide a high level of leadership, mentoring and training for less experienced staff.
  • Lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate to complex projects.
  • Lead design efforts with limited support from senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects.
  • Work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions and advice to clients.
  • Project management, engineering analysis, design and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings.
  • Working within the project’s monetary budget.
  • Assisting in training and mentoring efforts.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports.
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively.
  • Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence.
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements.
  • Train, mentor, and motivate staff.
  • Provide technical assistance in resolution of field issues with limited support from senior staff.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work.
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Participate in project interviews and project presentations.
  • Coordinate, oversee and manage projects ranging in size and complexity.
  • Assist Project Executives and Client Executives with design scopes of work and fee calculations for proposal generation as well as with contract reviews.
  • Create project schedules including targets for milestones and deadlines.
  • Serve as the point of contact for teams and clients.
  • Create monthly billings and submit financial information to Accounting in a timely manner.
  • Update billing projections and estimated completion percentage for all projects monthly.
  • Ensure design follows owner standards and requirements, IMEG standards and code requirements.
  • Ensure design milestone deliverables are achieved, IMEG and client quality control processes are completed, and construction technical support occurs in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with design staff and coordinate scheduling of projects during all phases of design and construction.
  • Schedule and lead progress meetings and provide meeting documentation.
  • Conduct construction site visits and provide documentation as needed or requested.
  • Respond to and resolve client / construction concerns.
  • Manage change orders and obtain appropriate approvals.
