About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Property & Buildings Team in Chicago, Illinois. This role provides the opportunity to support the design and delivery of electrical systems for a diverse portfolio of commercial, healthcare, higher education, civic, residential, and mixed-use projects. The ideal candidate is a technically strong engineer who enjoys collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to innovative, sustainable building solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5–7 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in the design of building systems.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Working knowledge of: National Electrical Code (NEC), Building and energy codes, Electrical distribution systems, Lighting and lighting controls, Emergency and standby power systems, Fire alarm systems.
  • Experience using: Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, or similar analysis software, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure in the near term.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in healthcare, higher education, commercial, laboratory, or civic facilities.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design principles and energy-efficient building systems.
  • LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar credential.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Familiarity with construction administration and field observation activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical engineering design and analysis for building systems projects.
  • Develop construction documents, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Design power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
  • Coordinate designs with architects, owners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Support project managers in meeting project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives.
  • Utilize Revit and BIM tools to develop and coordinate project designs.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and existing condition assessments.
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittmits, and supporting project closeout.
  • Review work for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support technical excellence initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
