LiRo-Hill is a 1100-person firm with offices in NYC, Long Island, Buffalo, Rochester, Boston and Edison, NJ. We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of electrical systems for complex transportation infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and experience working on large, multidisciplinary transportation projects. This role involves technical oversight, design leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and collaboration with clients, agencies, and project teams to deliver safe, resilient, and code‑compliant electrical systems for transit, rail, roadway, tunnel, and airport projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering for transportation or large infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects for: Transit and rail systems
  • Highways, bridges, tunnels, and airports
  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States; Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and specification of electrical systems for transportation projects, including: Power distribution (medium and low voltage)
  • Lighting and controls
  • Traction power and substations (rail/transit)
  • Communications, SCADA, and control systems
  • Fire life safety and emergency power systems
  • ITS, signal power, and roadway electrical systems
  • Prepare and review design drawings, calculations, technical reports, and specifications
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and authority requirements, including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, AASHTO, and local agency standards
  • Perform load analysis, short‑circuit analysis, grounding, protection coordination, and energy studies
  • Evaluate new technologies and sustainable design solutions for transportation infrastructure
  • Serve as discipline lead or technical manager for electrical scope on multi‑disciplinary projects
  • Coordinate electrical designs with civil, structural, mechanical, and systems engineering disciplines
  • Support development of project schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, value engineering studies, and quality control processes
  • Interface with transportation agencies, utilities, contractors, and client representatives
  • Present technical concepts and design solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Support proposal development, including scope definition, fee estimates, and technical narratives
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid‑level engineers
  • Perform technical reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Contribute to the development of internal standards, best practices, and lessons learned
