About The Position

This position focuses on electrical design for advanced power generation facilities, with an emphasis on schematics, cable sizing and routing, and connection diagrams for equipment such as switchboards, panelboards, relays, instrumentation, lighting, and control systems. The work includes designing duct banks, cable trays, raceways, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems. Design work is completed in 2D and 3D environments using industry-standard tools and may integrate artificial intelligence to improve speed and accuracy.

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Electrical Designer performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of electrical design principles and practices. The role creates and modifies electrical design drawings using tools such as AutoCAD, Plant3D, and Revit, and may lead other designers and drafters depending on project complexity.

Requirements

• Minimum of 20+ years of progressive design experience.
• Understanding of complex industrial or power generation facilities, or similar.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and solve routine technical problems related to the specialty area.
• Working knowledge of drafting and design techniques, standards, nomenclature, and symbols used in preparing drawings.
• Aptitude for computing, design, and drawing preparation and layout.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness to accept responsibility and ensure completed work is of the highest quality.
• Thorough understanding of applicable company policies, procedures, and practices, and a general understanding of applicable federal, state, and local government laws and regulations.
• Working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and Microsoft Office Suites.
• Willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology; preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and design routine to moderately difficult engineering and construction drawings, including layouts, assemblies, schematics, and details, using computer-aided design technology.
• Apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within the electrical discipline.
• Coordinate design work between specialty areas of the project team.
• Ensure design documents are high quality and prepared according to applicable company or client procedures; may check non-complex design deliverables.
• Understand the technical, construction, and commercial design approach and ensure it meets applicable requirements.
• Understand project drawing types, their purposes, and their relationships to other deliverables.
• Manage personal task assignments and adhere to project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Communicate project status, needs, and changes in scope, schedule, and budget to the Senior Designer.
• Perform basic design calculations, prepare material and equipment specifications, and produce preliminary sketches or detailed design drawings after the design approach is finalized.
• Depending on project complexity, lead other designers and drafters.
• Apply knowledge of construction methods and constructability requirements to design deliverables.
• Reference vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, and client standards, and interface with engineering as required.
• Work with project personnel to resolve internal and external customer issues that may be critical, sensitive, complex, or urgent.
