About The Position

A nationally recognized building-systems engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its Chicago practice. The organization delivers sophisticated, high-performance MEP solutions for complex buildings across healthcare, education, commercial, hospitality, transportation, and other markets. This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to lead technically challenging work, guide design teams, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to projects from early planning through construction. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will provide technical leadership across multiple MEP projects. This person will combine advanced electrical design expertise with team leadership, project management, interdisciplinary coordination, construction-phase support, and exceptional client service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in MEP electrical design and consulting.
  • Demonstrated team-leadership and staff-management experience.
  • Project management experience within the MEP industry.
  • Strong client-service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable building codes and electrical design systems.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical system planning, engineering, design, and interdisciplinary coordination for complex building projects.
  • Prepare and oversee drawings, specifications, calculations, studies, and other technical deliverables.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and quality while maintaining clear communication with clients and project partners.
  • Guide, mentor, and support electrical design staff while fostering accountability and collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with architects, owners, contractors, and other clients.
  • Provide construction administration, respond to field questions, and conduct site observations for assigned projects.
  • Apply applicable building codes and engineering standards to deliver safe, efficient, and coordinated solutions.
