The ideal candidate combines strong electrical product knowledge with experience interpreting bills of materials, managing ERP and MRP demand, negotiating with suppliers, and resolving shortages in a project-based manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • 5–10 or more years of experience in electrical purchasing, materials planning, or procurement for engineered equipment, with demonstrated senior-level scope.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical components and the ability to independently interpret electrical bills of materials and basic electrical documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and MRP systems, including demand review, purchase order placement, lead-time management, shortage tracking, safety stock, and production dates.
  • Experience negotiating with suppliers and balancing cost, on-time delivery, and production readiness.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and a high volume of open orders across multiple projects while maintaining accurate records.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, production, inventory, and supplier teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting engineered electrical equipment, generator packages, critical-power products, or project-based manufacturing.
  • Experience with NetSuite or a comparable ERP purchasing system.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase electrical components—including switchgear, circuit protection, breakers, wire and cable, conduit, panels, controls, and related hardware—using engineering bills of materials and production requirements.
  • Review ERP and MRP demand, production schedules, lead times, and inventory levels to plan purchases and ensure material availability for multiple projects.
  • Obtain competitive pricing and negotiate costs, lead times, delivery terms, volume discounts, and purchasing agreements with suppliers and distributors.
  • Manage purchase orders from placement through receipt; monitor open orders, expedite materials, and communicate delays or supply risks to production and project teams.
  • Identify and qualify alternative suppliers and component substitutions in collaboration with engineering when shortages or extended lead times arise.
  • Partner with engineering and production during project kickoff, design changes, and schedule updates to anticipate needs and secure long-lead materials.
  • Work with materials and inventory teams to establish appropriate stocking and safety-stock levels for frequently used components and address shortages or backorders.
  • Develop supplier relationships, evaluate delivery accuracy, fill rates, and responsiveness, and resolve performance issues.
  • Coordinate with receiving and accounts payable to confirm receipts, match purchase orders and invoices, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing, and lead times in the ERP system; support process improvements and perform other duties as assigned.
