About The Position

ModSquad is seeking a contract editorial writer to execute a brand-led marketing strategy. This role requires someone who can cover the outsourced customer support trust & safety landscape like a trade journalist or industry analyst, understanding vendor and platform activities. The position involves interviewing executives, critically analyzing industry data, and uncovering stories within client work to produce content that resonates with digital operations leaders. This content will be published under ModSquad leaders' names and placed in relevant industry publications. Ideal candidates have experience covering this beat at a trade publication, working as an industry analyst, producing cited original research, or ghostwriting executive bylines.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience covering or analyzing at least one of: customer experience, contact centers, BPO/outsourcing, trust & safety, content moderation, enterprise SaaS, or digital operations.

  • Demonstrable executive ghostwriting experience with published examples.
  • Experience producing or interpreting original research (surveys, benchmark data, industry datasets).
  • Ability to extract a story from a 30-minute conversation with an executive.
  • Ability to take a pile of ideas or a rough brief and build a coherent, logical argument.
  • Understanding of how trade publications operate, including pitching editorial angles, sponsored content, and co-authorship.
  • Knowledge of key publications, newsletters, and analysts in the relevant categories.
  • Comfortable in plain text workflows, Markdown, and GitHub.
  • Proficiency in sentence diagramming, applying the Paramedic Method from Revising Prose, or familiarity with 'Several Short Sentences About Writing' and its application.
  • Allergic to AI-generated content.
  • Operates with editorial judgment and can push back when a brief lacks a clear story.
  • Fast and self-directed, setting their own production pace without heavy oversight.
  • Comfortable working as an independent contractor alongside an in-house team.
