Senior Editorial Designer

RUN Studios

About The Position

RUN Studios is seeking an experienced Senior Editorial Designer to bring a new, executive-facing AI transformation playbook to life for one of our large corporate clients. The playbook is written for CHROs and senior People, Talent, HR, and Learning leaders. It offers practical guidance on leading human and AI transformation, redesigning work, building workforce capabilities, and creating an AI-ready organization. You will set the visual system and art direction and carry it through to a polished, production-ready publication. The work should match the editorial craft and storytelling of premium business thought leadership, such as IBM's Designing the Thinking Organization, while feeling distinctly on our clients brand. This is not a designed PowerPoint or a traditional corporate whitepaper.

Requirements

  • Senior-level editorial, publication, or information-design experience (10+ years), ideally with executive thought leadership, annual reports, research reports, strategy publications, or premium long-form content.
  • A portfolio demonstrating exceptional typography, layout, hierarchy, information design, and visual storytelling across multi-page publications.
  • Ability to turn complex strategy or research into experiences that feel simple, modern, authoritative, and highly readable.
  • Strong judgment about when content needs a visual device or framework and when strong editorial design should let the content breathe.
  • Comfort working iteratively with writers, strategists, and stakeholders as both content and design evolve together.
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Experience designing for both digital consumption and high-quality print/PDF output.
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, communication design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communication design, visual communication or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of professional design experience, with at least 4–5 years in editorial, publication or information design.
  • Proven experience art-directing or leading the visual system for multi-page publications such as thought leadership reports, annual reports, research reports, strategy publications or premium long-form content.
  • Experience partnering directly with writers, strategists and senior stakeholders to shape content, not just lay it out.
  • Experience designing for both digital consumption and high-quality print/PDF output.
  • A portfolio of multi-page publications showing excellent typography, layout, hierarchy, information design and visual storytelling.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or training in typography, editorial design or information design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft brand systems (including Fluent and Microsoft typography) and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Experience designing for HR, People, or C-suite audiences, or for professional-services thought leadership.
  • Experience with interactive or accessible PDF and digital publication formats.
  • Data visualization and diagramming skills for strategy and research content.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the overall visual system and art direction for the playbook within client brand guidelines.
  • Turn dense executive content into a clear, compelling editorial narrative through typography, layout, pacing, hierarchy, and visual storytelling.
  • Partner closely with the content team to decide what should be read, shown, diagrammed, highlighted, or simplified, rather than simply laying out supplied copy.
  • Design recurring editorial components, including chapter and section openers, frameworks, key takeaways, data callouts, examples, quotes, and action-oriented guidance.
  • Develop bespoke information graphics, diagrams, and visual frameworks that make complex ideas easier to understand.
  • Source or recommend imagery, illustration, or graphic treatments where they add value.
  • Carry the approved creative direction through to a polished, production-ready final asset for digital and print/PDF, ensuring consistency and quality throughout.
  • Work iteratively with writers, strategists, and stakeholders through regular reviews as content and design evolve together.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.
