Senior Editor

Goodwin ProcterBoston, NY

About The Position

Join Goodwin’s Global Operations Team and make a real impact on a global scale. Goodwin works with some of the world’s most successful and innovative investors, entrepreneurs, and disruptors in the life sciences, private equity, real estate, technology, and financial industries. As part of the Global Operations Team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues from varied backgrounds and experiences, fostering an environment where cross-functional learning, networking, and collaboration are at the core of what we do. This role is not just about supporting a law firm; it’s about partnering with attorneys and clients to deliver cutting-edge solutions in high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution, world-class regulatory compliance and advisory services, and complex transactions. The firm's commitment to integrity, ingenuity, agility, and ambition drives them, and they have been recognized as the “Best Business Team” by The American Lawyer. This is an opportunity to grow professionally in a dynamic, global environment, surrounded by forward-thinking peers. Goodwin's industry focus sets them apart — combining legal excellence with strategic and business advisory across healthcare, investment funds and capital, life sciences, private equity, real estate, and technology. The Senior Editor plays a central role in advancing the firm's strategy — connecting lawyers with clients through content that extends the firm's reach and influence. The role involves generating and developing ideas, owning a flagship content franchise, producing polished work across formats and channels, and managing a small team of editors. The Senior Editor will build relationships with lawyers, become a resource they seek out, and help shape the direction of the firm's editorial program. This is a role for someone who brings genuine curiosity about business, markets, and ideas — and the judgment to operate effectively in a professional services environment. The role reports to the Director, Editorial.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in business writing, editing, or content strategy
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and develop original ideas, not only execute assignments
  • Proven ability to work effectively with senior professionals in a professional services or consulting environment — drawing out ideas, shaping thinking, and turning expertise into publishable content
  • Strong editorial judgment: absorb complex material quickly, find the angle, produce copy a sophisticated reader will finish
  • Deep grounding in business and markets — and genuine intellectual appetite for the ideas that move industries
  • Exceptional organizational skills; ability to manage complex projects and competing deadlines
  • Experience managing and developing editors or writers in a professional editorial environment
  • Experience with AI tools in editorial contexts — research, drafting, editing, or content development

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop ideas. Stay current on the markets, industries, and issues that matter to Goodwin's clients. Spot ideas worth developing, shape them into content with a clear point of view, and connect them to the conversations that matter to business leaders and investors.
  • Write and edit to the highest standard. Bring journalism-level craft to every assignment, across every format. The work should earn the attention of a sophisticated audience and reflect the caliber of the firm.
  • Build relationships across the firm. Earn the trust of lawyers and client development leads across practice groups and industry groups. Learn their businesses, understand their clients, and become the person they turn to for editorial judgment. Navigate a complex, high-performing institution with confidence and good judgment.
  • Own and develop editorial programs. Run a flagship content franchise, finding ways to expand it and increase its impact. Help build new programs from the ground up. Manage competing workstreams and support innovation without losing focus or missing deadlines.
  • Develop editorial talent. Manage and develop a small team of editors — helping them grow as writers, thinkers, and editorial strategists. Provide the assignments, feedback, and guidance that bring out their best work and help them navigate and thrive in a professional services environment.
