About The Position

Edutopia is seeking an experienced editor to lead its emerging school leadership and AI Innovation beats. This role involves shaping how educators make leadership and technology decisions, impacting student learning. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to identify trends, develop compelling stories (features, scripts, social media), and possess excellent writing, reporting, and editing skills. Experience with multimedia formats like podcasts, video, and newsletters is a plus. The position will involve pitching and writing impactful features, guiding editorial direction, building relationships with key figures in leadership, education, and AI, and covering topics ranging from classroom technology and learning science to student development and the future of education. This is a remote, full-time position, funded for two years with the possibility of extension.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of journalism/reporting experience.
  • Feature writing, feature editing, and feature assigning experience.
  • Ability to identify trends and turn them into sharp, compelling story angles.
  • Proven ability to develop sources, grow beats, and create razor-sharp editorial lineups.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven digital media environments.
  • Genuine interest in improving preK-12 education and curiosity about how leadership and AI are shaping it.
  • Multimedia and multichannel writing, editing, and/or producing experience (Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, etc).
  • Working knowledge of foundational AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Pitching and writing features that give educators concrete actions and spark conversation.
  • Shaping editorial direction for the leadership and AI innovation beats.
  • Building relationships with influential voices in leadership, education, and AI.
  • Covering topics such as classroom tech, leadership, learning science, motivation, student development, and the future of education.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with editorial, social, video, and community teams.
  • Representing the organization at in-person conferences and online events, including facilitating panels.
  • Managing more junior staff members (a major plus).
  • Contributing to or leading podcasts (a major plus).
