About The Position

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Senior Underwriter from our Scottsdale, Arizona location. This role is part of our Contract Binding team and is responsible for driving profitable growth within the company’s risk appetite while maintaining an acceptable loss ratio. The position focuses on building and managing relationships with delegated authority wholesale agents. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience as a commercial P&C underwriter, including successfully managing and growing a book of business valued at $5–10 million in written premium. Experience with Excess & Surplus Lines is strongly preferred. This role works a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of commercial Property and Casualty underwriting experience or equivalent.
  • Equivalent experience defined as 6+ years as a P&C Underwriter in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with non-admitted and/or Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines underwriting.
  • Agency Management experience.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Excess & Surplus Lines is strongly preferred.
  • Contract Binding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate information to determine risk acceptability in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Make appropriate decisions based on evaluation of underwriting information.
  • Conduct marketing agency visits with our wholesale partners at least twice a year.
  • Perform active agency management of their assigned territory.
  • Effectively communicate and negotiate underwriting and pricing decisions to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Act with a sense of urgency on all inquiries/requests.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Build effective working relationships with assigned agency personnel as well as internal company staff.
  • Drive acceptable levels of new business opportunities through effective marketing to assigned agents.
  • Complete file audits within company guidelines to ensure compliance to underwriting and pricing standards where agents are delegated underwriting authority.
  • Attend agency conferences and conduct seminars and breakout sessions.
  • Participate and lead special projects as assigned.
  • Handle a moderate number of agency assignments.
  • Participate in annual planning meetings with assigned agents.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
