About The Position

Serves as a senior strategic leader responsible for shaping, advancing, and executing enterprise initiatives across Sutter Health through a broad range of complex transactions, including partnerships, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, affiliations, management agreements, and joint operating agreements. Plays a critical part in advancing Sutter Health’s integrated, not-for-profit delivery system by supporting strategies that strengthen physician alignment, enhance clinical integration, and expand access to high-quality, coordinated care. Operating in a highly matrixed environment, partners closely with system executives, medical group leadership, and clinical stakeholders to define and execute growth priorities. Requires deep expertise in healthcare strategy, physician alignment models, and transaction execution, along with the ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution and integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Progressively responsible experience in corporate development, healthcare strategy, investment banking, or healthcare finance, including significant experience leading complex transactions within integrated or physician-aligned delivery systems.
  • Deep expertise in mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, and physician alignment strategies within healthcare delivery systems.
  • Extensive experience structuring and executing joint ventures, affiliations, acquisitions, and other provider alignment models.
  • Demonstrated success working in matrixed healthcare organizations, partnering effectively with physician leaders and clinical stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of medical group dynamics, provider compensation models, and clinical integration strategies.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives and influence without direct authority.
  • Experience presenting to and engaging executive leadership, physicians, and boards of directors.
  • Knowledge of operational integration and performance improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean).
  • Advanced understanding of legal and regulatory considerations impacting healthcare transactions, including fraud and abuse laws, Stark law, anti-kickback statute, antitrust, and provider regulatory requirements.
  • Strong understanding of trends impacting healthcare delivery, including value-based care, ambulatory growth, and physician alignment.
  • Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility across executive and physician audiences.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, including financial modeling and executive-level presentations.
