Job Description Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As a Senior Director, Strategy & Operations, HIV Prevention, you will play a critical and exciting role within the HIV Prevention leadership team, helping to develop and refine processes that drive performance of the current PrEP portfolio, lead key projects and initiatives, and accelerate business outcomes. This role is based in Foster City, CA, and requires an on-site presence; remote or off-site work is not permitted. Reporting to the Vice President of HIV Prevention, the incumbent will serve as a key partner to the HIV Prevention leadership team and be immersed in the business's strategic and operational elements. They will collaborate closely with other cross-functional teams and partners, including those in HIV Treatment, Franchise, Commercial Operations, Medical, Managed Markets, Analytics, Government and Public Affairs, HR, and others. The incumbent will oversee key operational activities, lead cross-functional activities and strategic projects within the business, and act as a thought partner to ensure strong organizational strategy and direction. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader, with a strong track record of strategic and operational work experience across a broad range of commercial or related functional areas in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry. They should have the proven ability to manage complex and ambiguous projects effectively, influence stakeholders without direct authority, effectively network across the organization, communicate with senior leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and be a proactive, self-starter.

Requirements

  • Strong strategic thinking. Experience and ability to develop and articulate complex strategic issues and ideas (e.g., Research strategy, corporate strategy).
  • Proactive, self-starter; exceptionally organized and able to prioritize to ensure delivery within timelines
  • Experience talent who can verbally articulate a story and have strong PowerPoint skills to develop executive-level slide sets.
  • Agility Capable of working on multiple projects with overlapping timelines and meeting all deadlines with the ability to digest and prioritize information quickly.
  • Advanced verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience in executive communications, working with senior leaders to produce high-quality communications materials under tight timelines.
  • Long-Term Strategic Planning Experienced designer of long-term strategic planning, Research/innovation planning or corporate strategy development This includes developing materials (models, slides) for executive-level discussions. Prior experience participating in or leading strategic planning activities.
  • Industry knowledge Adept and knowledgeable about the biotech and biopharma industry. Familiar with key players, their portfolios, strengths and weaknesses. Possess the desire to understand key drivers of success in the sector and have a point of view on these as they pertain to Gilead. Familiarity with emerging technologies and strategic themes in industry (digital health, M&A trends, pricing environment, regional nuances, commercial models, etc.)
  • Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years’ Experience OR Masters' Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience OR PhD and Twelve Years’ Experience

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the creation of the new business unit, including but not limited to governance, leadership committee and meetings (LT, XLT, VPC, etc), day-to-day BU processes, communications, ways of working, etc
  • Serve as point of contact on strategic asks from leadership and work with cross-functional teams to develop consolidated and aligned responses with high quality.
  • Develop and maintain detailed work plans on key initiatives, including identifying project tasks, clear milestones, and assignments of work project responsibilities, schedules, plans, resources, budget, and status reports.
  • Targeted focus on driving business results and strategic initiatives through operational rigor, collaboration and cross-functional/leadership alignment
  • Establish business processes, roles, and responsibilities across the newly built HIV Prevention Business Unit.
  • Uncover areas within the business that drive performance or efficiency improvements and support project management of initiatives aligned with HIV Prevention and US Commercial Goals.
  • Develop and maintain detailed work plans on key initiatives, which include identification of project tasks, clear milestones, and assignments of work project responsibilities, schedules, plans, resources, budget, and status reports.
  • Oversee and manage HIV Prevention leadership team meetings, including curating topical discussions for U.S. leadership team meetings and driving actions/follow-up
  • Work closely with U.S. Leadership, HIV Prevention Leadership, Public Affairs, HR, and Finance to partner on internal and external communications strategy and preparation/content for impactful presentations. This includes QBRs, monthly business reviews, Earnings prepa ration and debriefs, leadership meetings, project/initiative presentations, customer meetings, keynote talks, all Hands, BU objectives and scorecards, National and Mid-Year Meeting presentations, follow-up communications, first Friday calls, field leaders calls, and online/social media communications.
  • Develop KPIs and track progress
  • Collaborate across multiple internal functions to manage employee, customer, and other appearances for the executive, including prioritizing internal and external events based on impact and strategic goals, partnering on preparation, and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices to ensure programs, processes, and initiatives are meaningful and aligned with the overall business strategy
  • Support future pipeline and portfolio questions through partnerships with global, clinical, and medical to ensure connectivity and alignment of overall strategy
  • Partner with Global teams to execute on ideas shared by the international L4P Team competition
