About The Position

As a Senior Director, Full-stack Engineer at Capital One, you will lead high-performing engineering teams defining the future of banking in the cloud. You will partner with product managers, designers, architects, and executive leaders to deliver scalable, customer-centric solutions. Senior Directors are technical people leaders who drive engineering strategy, guide complex architectural decisions, and translate business goals into impactful technology platforms while fostering engineering excellence and inclusion.

The role leads technical transformation of Capital One’s frontline agentic banking ecosystem across customer service, remote support, and physical branch/Café environments outside the credit card domain. It involves building distributed multi-agent systems that unify customer context across self-service tools, call center agents, and in-person Café Ambassadors, as well as real-time decisioning engines and voice/text orchestration platforms. These solutions streamline customer service inquiries, reduce resolution times, and provide branch staff with proactive AI assistance while meeting compliance, privacy, and system resiliency standards.

You will own technical health, delivery velocity, and system resilience for your domain; shape long-term technology strategy and platform roadmaps; and promote continuous learning, innovation, and high-impact delivery. The position also develops next-generation talent through mentoring managers and engineers, workforce strategy, and recruiting. The role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives. Annual salary ranges vary by location: Remote, $286,200–$326,700; McLean, VA, $314,800–$359,300; and New York, NY, $343,400–$392,000.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
• At least 7 years of people management experience.
• At least 9 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture.
• At least 9 years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns.
• At least 9 years of experience in cloud computing, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• At least 9 years of experience in data architecture.

• Expertise in the strategic application of agentic AI coding tools to solve systemic development challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product-focused software engineers.
• Shape long-term technical strategy and architecture standards for enterprise platforms.
• Partner with senior engineering and business leaders to align product roadmaps with scalable technology capabilities.
• Drive talent strategy, including succession planning, skill development, and equitable opportunity across engineering teams.
• Mentor and guide engineers’ professional and technical development.
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios, and develop market-driven capabilities and customer experiences.
• Continuously improve software engineering practices.
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support full-stack technical solutions.
