Senior Director, Software Engineering

SalesforceSan Francisco, CA
$218,400 - $401,400Hybrid

About The Position

Salesforce is the #1 AI CRM, where humans with agents drive customer success together. The Experience Tableau is at a critical inflection point, and we are building a world-class engineering team to ensure our most strategic customers succeed. As a Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will lead a high-impact team of engineers and product managers embedded directly within the core Engineering organization. Your mission is to help our customers by removing technical blockers, accelerating adoption of our services, and reducing attrition — with a primary focus on resolving complex, customer-specific technical issues. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA or Bellevue, WA. Unlike traditional customer success or sales roles, this position sits within the Engineering organization. You will work directly on the hardest technical challenges our customers face, partnering across field and product teams to redefine how Tableau Engineering engages with the enterprise world.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in engineering, project delivery, and senior customer-facing leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Professional Services, Field Engineering, FDE or similar technical consulting functions at scale.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain large-scale distributed systems, with deep familiarity with the Tableau ecosystem (Server, Cloud, Next) or similar enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience working with C-suite executives at Fortune 500 or large enterprise companies to resolve critical technical escalations and align product vision with business value.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience ramping a global team from the ground up and implementing consistent operating models across geographies.
  • Skilled at measuring success through customer health scores, adoption rates, and attrition reduction rather than traditional revenue quotas.
  • Established models for scaling team knowledge and expanding a team's charter over time.

Responsibilities

  • Build and scale a global team of subject matter experts (SMEs) across Tableau products and services.
  • Proactively engage at-risk customers to resolve technical blockers and unmet needs driving churn.
  • Partner with top strategic accounts to ensure successful implementation and deployment of Tableau products and services.
  • Define and manage intake, triage, and exit criteria for engagements, keeping the team focused on high-value, high-risk scenarios.
  • Establish models for scaling this team's knowledge and charter.
  • Partner deeply with our field, customer facing teams, and partners while maintaining clear role boundaries to ensure the engineering organization focuses on engineering outcomes rather than project management.
