About The Position

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Director, Local Business Leadership / Senior Vice President, Regional Business Line Leader – Bridge Inspection (Mid‑Atlantic) to lead an established bridge inspection department. The successful candidate will provide executive leadership for the Mid‑Atlantic district, overseeing multiple Bridge Inspection Districts and driving strategy, business performance, and delivery excellence across a complex, multi‑state operating environment. This role is responsible for regional business operations, client engagement, financial performance, and governance, ensuring alignment with national Bridge Inspection objectives and WSP’s standards for quality, safety, consistency, and profitability. The position serves as a trusted advisor to senior and executive leadership and plays a key role in shaping both regional execution and national outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; multi‑state licensure preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive professional experience, including leadership of large, complex organizations, programs, or business units.
  • Demonstrated success in district or local business leadership, including financial and operational accountability.
  • Extensive knowledge of business operations, financial management, and organizational leadership.
  • Proven ability to influence and advise senior and executive leadership.
  • Strong executive presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel within the Mid‑Atlantic region as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute district ‑ level business strategies aligned with National Bridge Inspection Business Line objectives and overall organizational goals.
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team, driving strategic initiatives and contributing to long ‑ term planning, investment decisions, and market positioning.
  • Provide insight and guidance to senior and executive leadership on market trends, growth opportunities, organizational risk, and resource needs.
  • Approve district budgets, staffing plans, and strategic investments to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Maintain full accountability for district P&L performance, including revenue growth, backlog development, utilization, margin, and forecast accuracy.
  • Establish and monitor district ‑ level KPIs, ensuring performance aligns with approved business plans.
  • Ensure financial decisions are made with a clear understanding of their impact on overall business performance.
  • Lead corrective actions when financial or operational performance deviates from plan.
  • Provide executive oversight for delivery governance, QA/QC, safety, and compliance with NBIS, AASHTO, and client ‑ specific standards.
  • Act as the final escalation authority for technical, contractual, financial, and client ‑ related risks within the district.
  • Approve major pursuits, contracts, and delivery decisions in accordance with established delegation of authority.
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of emerging practices and technologies across the district.
  • Serve as the executive sponsor for key DOT and transportation agency clients across the Mid ‑ Atlantic.
  • Maintain and expand executive ‑ level client relationships, supporting repeat business and new market opportunities.
  • Represent WSP externally as a trusted advisor and industry leader in bridge inspection services.
  • Integrate technical capabilities and business opportunities to strengthen WSP’s market position and long‑term client partnerships.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to Bridge Inspection District Managers, ensuring accountability, performance excellence, and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Lead district workforce planning, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, leadership depth, and technical capability to support current and future programs.
  • Develop and maintain a confidential leadership succession plan for the district.
  • Foster an inclusive, high‑performance culture that values collaboration, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
  • Ensure strong coordination between district operations and national business line leadership, as well as other WSP market sectors.
  • Promote consistent implementation of enterprise initiatives, policies, and best practices across the district.
  • Support cross‑regional collaboration and resource sharing to advance national Bridge Inspection priorities.
