About The Position

Genentech is establishing a strategically focused Workplace Delivery Team responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of all workplace solutions for the South San Francisco campus and related sites. We are seeking a visionary, enterprise‑minded senior leader to lead Real Estate Strategy & Portfolio Planning within Workplace Delivery. This strategic and operational role is responsible for defining the long‑range agenda and ensuring disciplined execution across a large, complex set of campus and portfolio initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will be accountable for real estate and portfolio strategy; campus and master planning; asset acquisition/divestment and real estate transactions; space management, forecasting, and utilization analytics; and real estate business systems, data, and analytics. You will define the long-term campus and portfolio vision for Genentech’s South San Francisco site, aligning it with business strategies. As a strategic integrator, you will provide a unified 'one-voice' approach, cultivate an employee-centric, science-enabled campus that fosters productivity and flexibility, and evolve the organization's operating model to meet future business and workforce needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical), Real Estate, Facilities Planning, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience, including significant experience at the senior leadership/executive level, and proven track record in campus‑scale real estate development, portfolio strategy, and master planning.
  • Senior leadership experience in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Corporate Real Estate, Facilities Planning, or Workplace Strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complex campus environments; lab and research facilities experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience negotiating major real estate transactions and working with municipalities on land use, permitting, and entitlements.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the enterprise real estate and portfolio strategy for the South San Francisco campus and related sites, ensuring alignment with Genentech’s scientific, manufacturing, and corporate priorities.
  • Lead a team to oversee Real Estate Transactions, Lease Administration, Campus Planning, Asset management and M&A integrations.
  • Lead the end‑to‑end real estate and portfolio strategy for the South San Francisco campus and related sites, including real estate strategy and scenario planning; asset acquisition, management and divestment; and real estate transactions and lease administration
  • Shape long‑term 10 year campus and site plans (office, research, manufacturing, clinical, infrastructure) that support pipeline evolution, new therapeutic modalities, and future workforce needs.
  • Oversee site‑wide space allocation across research labs, manufacturing operations, clinical areas, office space, and infrastructure to optimize efficiency, flexibility, and scientific productivity.
  • Guide lifecycle asset management strategies to ensure proactive stewardship of buildings and infrastructure.
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leaders translating business strategies into real estate, campus, and workplace solutions.
