About The Position

The Senior Director Portfolio Strategy and Execution serves as a strategic and operational leader within the U.S. responsible for driving cross-functional alignment, launch excellence, portfolio planning, and operational execution across the Rare Disease franchise. This role partners closely with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Clinical Development, Finance and Business Development leadership to ensure organizational priorities are effectively translated into actionable plans and measurable outcomes across pre-launch, launch and post-launch activities. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA or Graduate level degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry within Sales, Marketing or Business Development, preferably gained in both small and large companies
  • Supervisory experience or significant experience in project management preferred (prior experience with consulting strategy group a plus)
  • Minimum of 8 years of combined Commercial Launch experience including:
  • Cross-functional project management or proven experience coordinating with sales, marketing, market access etc.
  • Vendor knowledge and relationships, with proven track record of successfully negotiating contracts
  • Knowledge of launch strategy
  • Background in consulting and project management
  • Knowledge of details and activities within the Commercial function
  • Must be able to travel 20% domestically and internationally for business and project meetings as required.
  • Recent in-depth experience with Rare Disease launches.
  • Opportunity assessments for either early-stage assets or BD due diligence
  • In-depth experience leading and building a launch excellence function.
  • Knowledge of industry contacts that could enable the advancement of the company’s position in the marketplace.
  • General knowledge of commercial agreements and intellectual property issues.
  • Demonstrated process orientation, organization skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and adhere to tight timelines ensuring deadlines are met with high quality output.
  • Demonstrates responsiveness, attention to detail, and follow-through coupled with ability to prioritize/multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information, distill critical insights to inform commercial assessments, and translate to tactical level.
  • Business case development skills, financial acumen, and budget management skills. Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office; skilled at using Excel to develop pharmaceutical product forecast models and quantitative analyses.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Pharma industry, broad therapeutic areas/disease states, drugs/treatments, and related regulatory, commercialization and compliance requirements.
  • Must live a commutable distance to our US Corporate Headquarters in Florham Park, NJ. Office presence required at least 50% of the time per month.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Head of US Rare Disease to proactively highlight business critical risks/opportunities, and planning and directing the most critical organizational, financial, and operational activities for all products in the rare disease portfolio
  • Leads the development of key launch strategy and brand plans for Shionogi’s rare disease portfolio in the US. Track implementation and execution of plan, driving outcomes that will meet or exceed organizational objectives.
  • Leads program launch sessions to produce key deliverables, including business requirements and business rules documentation, patient and healthcare provider journey diagrams, strategic roadmaps, blueprint development, and gap/risk analyses in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Works with external customers including physicians, patients, advocacy groups and payer’s organizations to gather, understand, synthesize, prioritize, and define business objectives to inform requirements, development sessions with scope consideration for but not limited to operations, analytics, sales, and ongoing outcomes measurement to inform short and long-term brand strategies.
  • Works with global marketing and BD&L on future assets or in-license opportunities including the viability of US commercialization, working cross functional teams to build TPP’s, forecasting and go to market strategy.
  • Works with Global New Product Planning team to provide insight into strategies for later-stage pipeline assets (phase 2, 3) including opportunity assessment, positioning, differentiation strategies, and target product profile development
  • Manage information flow and ensure/create appropriate executive communications among the matrixed and cross-functional organization, this includes concise and timely updates to the CEO, and broader leadership team
  • Develops key analyses and presentations for senior leadership and other stakeholders in support of business development/commercialization planning investment decisions.
  • Partners with Commercial Leadership develop KPI’s for launch success, key benchmarks, deliverables and tracking of key department execution. Including creation and tracking of expectations documents, ROI metrics and change management
  • Develops monthly, and quarterly business reviews to track performance and trajectory, collaboration with key stakeholders on best practices and outline improvement process on underperforming areas.
  • Owns budget from development through execution, working closely with US Rare LT and finance to ensure US Rare stays within +/- 5% of annual target
  • Leverages in-depth experience and existing relationships working with vendors to write vendor contracts which are sensitive to bottom-line Shionogi profitability.
  • Leads complex multifunctional projects through all stages of development from planning to execution including working with creative agencies and medical, legal and regulatory reviewers including developing detailed project plans for teams to follow.
  • Works with cross functional teams to create effective, positive partnerships with peers and key internal/ external stakeholders and ensure alignment of business needs and objectives.
  • Develops key financial analytics and outlining resources needed to implement the Go to Market strategy. Including development of cross functional launch roadmap and tracking progress that facilitated communication, transparency, and alignment.
