About The Position

This position supports the work of the Gaston County Family YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Director of Wellness shall be responsible for developing, implementing and enhancing all current health related wellness programming for members as well as anticipate the future health/wellness needs of the growing community in Gaston County. Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required in exercise sports, recreation, health OR equivalent work experience and certification from an Nationally Accredited Association specific to Wellness/community health
  • 2-4 years supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience with training clients or teaching classes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal & coaching skills
  • Demonstrated fiscal management experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software platforms as utilized in the Association
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 6 months
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training before working with consumers and on an annual basis.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate and provide leadership in the Association Strategic Plan
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the wellness programs and services which include, but are not limited to, personal training, group exercise, and Chronic Disease Prevention.
  • Development and management of the budget to ensure sound fiscal stewardship
  • Provide oversight to the Wellness center operation which includes Wellness equipment safety, cleanliness and maintenance
  • Provide leadership to the Wellness center equipment installation process for the Association
  • Recruit, hire, train and develop all of the Wellness staff, personal training team, and provide leadership to the group exercise staff
  • Responsible for providing leadership to existing Wellness special events such as the Annual Trick or Trail 5k Run and other wellness special programs/challenges while creating new ways for members to be engaged with the YMCA
  • Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies that include maintaining our Praesidium Child Abuse Prevention best practices and procedures
  • Ability to contribute and communicate in a positive, productive way during meetings with supervisor, other YMCA staff, community members/guests, and volunteers
  • Actively participate in management team meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Provide leadership in the Annual Giving Plan which includes education/awareness to members and staff on our cases for support and meeting staff and department fundraising goals
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Director on marketing/promotions to ensure consistent messaging around the Y as a cause-driven charitable organization
  • Complete and adhere to all established Human Resources and Business Services procedures of the association such as payroll, risk reporting, staff certifications, performance reviews, and expenses reconciliation.
  • Attend community health/wellness events as appropriate to promote the YMCA.
  • Have the ability to lead, direct and/or teach activities/classes for which employees or volunteers cannot be secured.
  • Work weekend duty as scheduled and annual Y special events as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisor.
