About The Position

The Senior Director of Transmission Member Services provides oversight and strategic planning for Transmission Development activities. The Senior Director must have extensive experience with public power and municipal governments. The Senior Director must exhibit strong technical skills necessary to support transmission dependent economic development activities and enact reliability and resiliency enhancements for AMP Members. The Senior Director will develop projects in adherence to criteria from AMP Transmission, the PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM), the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO), the ReliabilityFirst Corporation, and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of electric utility experience.  Public power/municipal government experience strongly preferred.
  • Prefer a four-year ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or other applicable engineering disciplines. A candidate with a 4 Year Business Degree or other related degree will be considered if candidate brings exceptional business acumen and experience.
  • Must possess excellent communication, presentation, diplomacy, active listening, and facilitation skills and have proven experience working effectively work with technical and non-technical stakeholders in one on one situations and in group environments.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed; travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and oversee AMPT transmission opportunities for the purchase of existing AMP Member owned transmission facilities.
  • Develops asset valuations, presents opportunities to AMP Members, creates conceptual plans and coordinates purchase/planning activities with AMP Members, AMPT personnel, and consultants.
  • Prepare presentations and presents proposed purchase opportunities to Member governing bodies.
  • Works closely with Legal to develop and prepare closing documents.
  • Act as primary liaison between AMPT and Members regarding economic development efforts impacting transmission assets.
  • Coordinate with AMPT Planning, Engineering and Operations and AMP Members to develop scope of work for engineering and construction. Participate in project field/site walkdowns and attend meetings/conference calls as needed. Build and maintain excellent relationships with AMP Members and stakeholder representatives and individual TO representatives.
  • Ensures alignment of transmission development activities with AMP Transmission, LLC (AMPT) goals and objectives.
  • Direct and oversee staffing related to this function including oversight of external consultants.
  • In coordination with the Senior Director of Transmission Planning, develops and oversees solutions to mitigate reliability issues based on AMPT Transmission Planning Criteria as well as PJM, MISO, and adjacent Transmission Owners’ (TO) Planning Criteria.
  • Develop and maintain strong working business knowledge/acumen of applicable RTO planning rules/processes, as well as regional and local transmission systems.
  • Demonstrate self-sufficiency and support the AMP Transmission team by demonstrating accountability, consistency, and cooperation with all departments.
  • Ensures all work activities are performed in accordance with the policies, practices, standards, and rules of the AMP and AMP Transmission and complies with the regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
