About The Position

Horizons for Homeless Children is seeking an experienced technology leader for the newly created role of Senior Director of Technology Strategy & Operations. This position reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for ensuring that the organization's systems, tools, and infrastructure effectively support its mission of improving the lives of children and families experiencing homelessness. The Senior Director will partner with service line leaders to design, implement, and support technology solutions that enhance staff productivity, strengthen program operations, and optimize data utilization, including the thoughtful application of emerging AI tools. Key responsibilities include overseeing organization-wide knowledge management and productivity tools, managing program-specific workflows, leading staff training, and managing the IT Coordinator who handles daily IT infrastructure, user support, and security. This role requires a blend of strategic leadership, innovation, and hands-on collaboration, with the Senior Director also participating in broader organizational strategic and operational planning.

Requirements

10+ years of progressively responsible technology experience.
At least 4–5 years directly managing complex IT infrastructure, vendor relationships, and a technology budget.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
Demonstrated success supervising and developing technology staff.
Track record of working closely with non-technical stakeholders to design and deliver practical, usable solutions.
Experience managing enterprise-wide systems, considering both department-level tailoring and organization-wide data collection.
Direct, hands-on experience managing an outsourced IT/MSP relationship, including infrastructure simplification and cost control.
Proficient and resourceful in using AI and other emerging tools to meet organizational needs.
Deep understanding of current IT infrastructure, security, and operations practices.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and partnership.
A collaborative, service-oriented approach.
Practical problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on usability, efficiency, and impact.
Comfort balancing competing priorities and moving between big-picture strategy and hands-on implementation.
Ability to interact at an executive level with vendors, board members, and other external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with tools such as Qualtrics, NetSuite, Blackbaud, DECA, Teaching Strategies GOLD, HRIS platforms, Quickbase, Zendesk, and the Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

Partner with program and service leaders to understand operational needs and translate them into effective technology solutions.
Manage the organization's relationship with its Managed Service Provider (MSP), focusing on infrastructure simplification and cost control.
Champion information management best practices, including file and folder taxonomies, with consideration for AI tool integration.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce manual processes through the adoption of AI and other tools.
Strengthen the organization's use of data and technology tools for improved information capture, sharing, decision-making, and reporting.
Oversee the IT Coordinator to ensure reliable IT operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and user support.
Develop and enforce policies and procedures for technology security, compliance, and reliability.
Lead and grow the technology function, setting priorities, fostering communication, and building capacity.
Manage external vendor, consultant, and partner relationships, overseeing system implementations and integrations.
