About The Position

The Senior Director of Software Engineering will lead the software engineering team for Ardán and its enterprise applications. This role involves directly managing a team of 18 engineers, focusing on their growth, delivery, and the quality of their output. The position requires a significant focus on developing engineers, managing a healthy delivery process, and collaborating with Product and Design to translate priorities into shipped software. The role also demands staying technically involved through design and architecture reviews, and occasional code contributions, while ensuring the team remains unblocked and focused.

Requirements

  • Hands-on engineering experience with current technical depth to earn team's trust in design and code reviews.
  • Experience with .NET ( .NET Framework and newer versions of .NET).
  • Experience with TypeScript and related stacks (like Angular, React, Vue).
  • Experience with visual styling tools (like CSS, Tailwind) and standards (like Material Design).
  • Experience with relational and document database management systems (like MSSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
  • A track record of shipping quality software with a team and improving team processes.
  • Strong people skills: coaching, giving feedback, and growing engineers at different levels.
  • Ability to partner effectively with Product and Design.
  • Ability to communicate clearly across audiences.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years in software engineering.
  • 1-2+ years directly managing engineers.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other standards, including meeting productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA and other standards.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop or bend for an extended period (8 hours).
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to listen and speak clearly over the phone.

  • Experience in title insurance, mortgage industry, or real estate / property technology is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage a team of 17 engineers, including regular 1:1s, coaching, feedback, performance management, and career growth.
  • Own the team's delivery by collaborating with the technical program manager on planning, prioritization, and predictable execution against clear goals.
  • Collaborate with the technical program manager to run a healthy day-to-day process, including sprint planning, standups, retros, and continuous improvement of team workflows.
  • Stay technically engaged by participating in design and code reviews, guiding architectural decisions, and helping to resolve complex problems.
  • Contribute code where it adds the most value (estimated 15-30% of time).
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to scope work, sequence the roadmap, and balance speed with quality and maintainability.
  • Contribute to and maintain a healthy team culture focused on ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the operational health of systems, including reliability, on-call, incident response, and technical debt, and advocate for necessary investments with executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with peer engineering leaders to enhance cross-team processes, hiring, and standards across the enterprise.
  • Communicate clearly with the team, manager, and cross-functional partners.
