About The Position

Half Magic Beauty is seeking a Senior Director of Sales to manage retail distribution globally. This role will support the CEO in strategic business planning and lead launch execution, and then manage the ongoing business, building the team, and growing the opportunity over time. The successful candidate will be a commercial leader and builder who can simultaneously think big and roll up their sleeves in a lean, entrepreneurial start-up environment. They will have a deep understanding of the Ulta playbook and will develop and own meaningful relationships with retail partners and drive strategic programming to achieve business goals, driving both strong sell-in and sell-through, building and managing the field sales function, and lead education in partnership with Marketing. The Senior Director of Sales reports to the CEO and will serve on the brand’s leadership team, making collaborative decisions and sharing in stewardship for the overall brand and team to help build a sustainable, long-term business optimized for economic results and business performance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record driving strategic and sustainable retail growth within specialty beauty and driving brand love in stores.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience with significant exposure to prestige beauty
  • Proven experience building and scaling brands at Ulta, Ulta Mexico, Mecca, and Sephora UK, with deep fluency in each retailer's playbook, planning calendar, and sell-in/sell-through initiatives and dynamics
  • A passionate leader with proven ability to lead, develop and grow teams, who can drive business at pace with a collaborative team spirit
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the organization and with external partners
  • Proven track record of dramatically driving top-line growth and profitability and scaling retail across multiple channels/partners, including directly managing sizable Ulta brands.
  • Direct experience managing an Amazon business, including catalog strategy, brand protection, content optimization, and driving profitable growth on the platform
  • Highly commercial and data-driven with experience owning a sizable P&L
  • Ability to thrive within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and balance competing priorities, as well as the ability and willingness to roll up your sleeves to ensure successful execution
  • Ability to travel as needed (~30%)

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead Global retail strategy and channel performance to profitably drive brand awareness and revenue growth across US and International markets
  • Oversee Ulta, Ulta MX, Mecca, and Sephora UK accounts with a priority focus on Ulta
  • Partner with cross-functional teams as needed on Retail execution and Retailer initiatives
  • Work closely with Finance to develop annual budgets and targets
  • Lead a high-performance team including managing the Director, National Field Sales & Education
  • Build and evolve team as needed to support business growth
  • Support CEO and Finance in development of 3-year Global retail strategy
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with our retailers, defining & building a differentiated and thoughtful strategy for each channel while cultivating relationships with potential retail partners
  • Support CEO in negotiations of business terms / contractual agreements
  • Build, drive and grow retail channel while managing day-to-day partnership and business with retail partners, with an eye on constant optimization and the acceleration of growth opportunities
  • Optimize business performance on monthly, quarterly, annual basis to drive revenue and profitability
  • Accountable for sell-in and sell-through, owning the retail channel P&L end-to-end, inclusive of sales/budget planning across accounts, forecasting, and promotional strategy, making the appropriate tradeoffs to establish the brand while delivering sustainable growth
  • Support CEO on space and location strategy
  • Drive Channel-specific retail, corporate, and education activations
  • Partner with Operations and Planning teams to determine inventory planning and forecasting approach/execution and fulfillment requirements
  • Partner with Marketing on 360 launch plans to drive flawless execution in-store and with retailers online and co-lead retail marketing strategy and initiatives
  • Lead sales reporting in partnership with Finance
