RAJ Sports focuses on investment opportunities in sports and sports-related properties, drawing on the Bhathal family’s multi-generational experience and relationships in the industry. Its deep experience in professional sports operations and large-scale real estate developments that create thriving community centers, positions the firm to deliver valuable assets that will support further growth for the players, staff, and fans. The 2024 acquisitions of Portland Thorns (NWSL) and the Portland Fire (WNBA) represents a milestone for the city of Portland and places it at the epicenter of growth for women’s sports. The Sr. Director of Operations will provide strategic leadership and oversight for Facilities Management, Security, and Information Technology (IT) across the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, safety, compliance, and efficiency for the Portland Thorns and Portland Fire Teams at our brand-new dual sport Performance Center located in Hillsboro, OR. The Sr. Director will partner closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions that align with business objectives. Reporting to the VP, People & Culture and Operations this role will oversee three (3) direct reports. The ideal candidate is organized and flexible with real-time problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in operations leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Proven track record overseeing multi-site facilities management, corporate security, and IT functions.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget development and cost optimization.
  • Experience with enterprise systems, cybersecurity practices, and IT infrastructure management.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex challenges, drive cross-functional initiatives, and lead through change.
  • Proven understanding of relevant legislation including OSHA, Electrical Code, Fire Code, Building code and HVAC training and experience with mechanical systems.
  • Experience in large building maintenance and strong understanding of building operations and troubleshooting systems with the capacity to provide experienced advice regarding building systems.
  • Strong understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs, building automation systems, facility management systems and strong organizational skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute long-term strategies for facilities, security, and IT operations to support organizational goals.
  • Establish policies, standards, and best practices across all areas of responsibility, including Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and Safety Training.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation for operations, ensuring cost efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the management, maintenance, and optimization of all facilities, including office spaces, performance centers, and event venues.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives, vendor relationships, and capital improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Lead all aspects of the mechanical operation of the facility including but not limited to cooling, heating, and associated equipment.
  • Use expertise in building systems (mechanical, electrical, life safety, etc.) to diagnose and implement the maintenance and repairs for day to day and long-term equipment issues.
  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive security strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard personnel, assets, and data.
  • Oversee physical security, access control, emergency preparedness, and crisis response plans.
  • Partner with external agencies and vendors to ensure best-in-class security practices.
  • Provide strategic oversight of 3rd party IT operations, infrastructure, systems, and support services.
  • Guide digital transformation initiatives, including cloud adoption, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology platforms.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and implement technologies that enhance organizational efficiency, collaboration, and data security.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team across facilities, security, and IT functions.
  • Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Partner with People & Culture and Executive Leadership Team on workforce planning, training, and succession strategies.
