About The Position

The Senior Director of Finance & Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for stewarding the financial health and integrity of the ministry. This individual will provide strategic oversight of all finance and accounting functions, ensuring excellence in reporting, compliance, and operational effectiveness across a complex, donor-supported organization. As a trusted partner to executive leadership, ministry leaders, and the Board of Directors, this role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to long-term planning, strengthen systems and processes, and enable wise, mission-aligned decision-making.

Requirements

  • Significant, progressive leadership experience in finance and accounting
  • Proven experience in nonprofit financial management
  • CPA strongly preferred; MBA or related advanced degree a plus
  • Experience working with Boards and Finance/Audit Committees
  • Strength in financial systems improvement and process optimization
  • Analytical thinking, sound judgment, and clear communication skills
  • Experience with international or multi-currency operations is a plus
  • Agreement with the Ligonier Core Statement of Faith
  • Individuals who are authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Provide Strategic Financial Leadership: Serve as a senior leader overseeing all finance, accounting, and reporting functions
  • Partner with executive leadership to support strategic planning and key decisions
  • Deliver clear, actionable financial insight aligned with ministry priorities
  • Guide Financial Planning & Analysis: Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Develop financial models, cash flow projections, and scenario analyses
  • Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements
  • Ensure Excellence in Accounting & Compliance: Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll, AP/AR, and investments
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit financial standards
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial safeguards
  • Support Reporting & Governance: Prepare and present financial reports to leadership and Board committees
  • Lead external audit coordination and ensure transparency in reporting
  • Strengthen governance practices and accountability
  • Drive Systems & Process Improvement: Enhance financial systems, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiencies
  • Implement process improvements that increase accuracy, automation, and visibility
  • Lead & Develop the Team: Build, coach, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence
