About The Position

The Senior Director of Ambulatory Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management, strategic planning, and operational leadership of all ambulatory care services. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across multiple outpatient medical practices. The Senior Director works closely with clinical and administrative leaders to drive operational excellence, improve patient outcomes, optimize workflows, and align operations with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.

Requirements

  • Master?s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years administrative or medical office experience required
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare administration, with at least 2 years in ambulatory or outpatient operations leadership.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale operations across multiple locations.
  • Prior experience managing a clinical department.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, financial management, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and healthcare technology integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor diverse teams, manage budgets, and drive strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President, Ambulatory and in coordination with the Ambulatory Operations Directors, providers enterprise-level leadership and oversight, leads, directs and oversees the daily operation of Ambulatory practices, including reviewing workflows, reviewing staffing and ensuring staffing competencies are appropriate.
  • Implement and standardize operational workflows, processes, and best practices across all sites.
  • Oversee the implementation of new programs, technologies, and processes that support the growth and efficiency of ambulatory services.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to align operations with patient care standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement action plans to improve performance.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies to enhance ambulatory care services.
  • Drive growth initiatives such as expanding services, opening new practices, or improving access to care.
  • Conduct market analysis and identify opportunities for service line growth and improvement.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align ambulatory operations with overall organizational strategy.
  • Financial Management: May be asked to review budgets for ambulatory practices, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue optimization.
  • Advise on resource allocation, staffing models, and productivity metrics to maximize financial performance.
  • Collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and analysis.
  • Lead initiatives to improve the quality of care and ensure patient safety in ambulatory settings.
  • Quality and Patient Safety: Collaborate with clinical teams to implement evidence-based practices and maintain compliance with any regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Monitor patient satisfaction and implement strategies to improve patient experience.
  • Oversee risk management and performance improvement programs.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities to clinic managers and administrative staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the ambulatory team.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, and performance management of key operational staff.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and patient-centered work environment.
  • Technology and Innovation: Drive the adoption of technology solutions to improve operational efficiency and patient care delivery.
  • Collaborate with IT and clinical teams to ensure the successful implementation and optimization of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other health technology systems.
  • Evaluate and implement innovations that improve workflow, patient access, and staff productivity.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all ambulatory operations comply with state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Stay informed of changes in healthcare laws and regulations that impact ambulatory care.
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure audits and inspections are passed successfully.
  • Perform other related duties
