About The Position

Leads the credit union’s mortgage origination strategy, staff management, and service excellence. Drives business growth through strategic partnerships and market expansion while ensuring seamless mortgage application processing and compliance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in mortgage lending and originations, with a strong background in loan structuring, underwriting principles, regulatory compliance, and mortgage product knowledge. Experience should include direct involvement in loan origination, managing borrower relationships, and overseeing the end-to-end mortgage process from application to closing.
  • Must be registered with the National Mortgage Licensing System ("NMLS") and maintain active status and accurate registration information on file. Provide changes to any individual information (such as an address or name change) as they occur directly into the NMLS system or to the Mortgage Department within 20 days of such change.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Executive Leader to define and execute department strategies, initiatives, and performance targets, ensuring alignment with broader business unit objectives. Share accountability for achieving departmental strategic goals.
  • Lead and support direct reports, fostering a culture of high performance and accountability. Provide back-up support for direct report(s) as needed.
  • Set measurable goals and performance expectations for direct reports, providing regular feedback and conducting check-ins to drive continuous improvement.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the department and across departments.
  • Develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration.
  • Oversee internal and external mortgage origination staffing, making key employment decisions, setting performance goals, delegating work, coaching team members, conducting performance reviews, providing salary recommendations, and resolving personnel matters. Ensure staff receive ongoing training and development.
  • Train staff on mortgage products and loan programs, equipping them with the knowledge to effectively assist members in choosing the best financial solutions.
  • Actively engage with members to initiate mortgage lending opportunities. Conduct prequalification and preapproval meetings for first mortgages, refinancing, and home equity loans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with real estate brokers and industry professionals to promote WCU’s mortgage products and services.
  • Partner with Chambers of Commerce and local organizations to enhance awareness and accessibility of WCU’s mortgage and financial products.
  • Assist in member education through credit union-sponsored seminars on topics such as home buying, refinancing, and equity lending. Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional products and services to enhance member financial wellness.
  • Represent WCU at community and industry events, including home shows, to promote mortgage lending services and other credit union offerings.
  • Manage daily mortgage loan applications received through the POS system, ensuring fair loan distribution among staff. Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the system and provide training for new employees as needed.
  • Ensure the mortgage application process maintains high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and service quality from application to closing. Address issues within individual applications and lending staff, while recommending process improvements to senior management.
  • Provide regular pipeline reports on personal loan production as well as that of reporting originators.
  • May be asked to provide coverage in other WCU branches or departments.
  • Adhere to all WCU policies and procedures which include security compliance and following guidelines intended to limit risk exposure to fraud and losses.
  • Participates in department and/or organizational projects as directed.
  • Performs other tasks or functions as required, requested, necessary or prudent.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all member and credit union information and data.
  • Regularly demonstrates behaviors as defined by the credit union’s Fundamentals, which are part of the Workers Way culture program.
