About The Position

The Senior Merchant for Women’s Apparel at Sam’s Club leads the strategy and performance of the business, anticipating member needs and market trends to drive sustainable omni-channel growth. This leader combines strong merchant instinct, member insights and financial acumen to determine where to invest, find and scale great items, and deliver incredible quality and unmatched value. The role develops a high performing team and builds strong relationships across cross functional partners, suppliers and brands. Ultimately, this leader sets the direction, develops great merchants and makes bold decisions that drive long term growth. The Women’s Apparel team is a high performing group of associates focused on finding great items and delivering incredible quality, newness and unmatched value for our members. As Senior Director of Merchandising, you’ll lead and develop this team, building strong merchant talent and creating a culture of curiosity, accountability and bold thinking. You’ll foster strong relationships across cross functional teams, suppliers and brands, bringing people together to unlock new ideas and opportunities. Together, the team stays close to the member and market, moves with speed and continually raises the bar for Women’s Apparel at Sam’s Club.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in merchandising with strong leadership capabilities to drive strategic initiatives and team development.
  • Proven expertise in trend analysis, category strategy, and assortment planning to anticipate member behaviors and industry shifts.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis and digital literacy to evaluate business performance and inform decision-making.
  • Deep understanding of supply chain operations and collaboration to mitigate risks and enhance efficiency.
  • Strong negotiation skills to optimize supplier relationships and secure favorable terms.
  • Ability to develop and implement item merchandising strategies that enhance member value and company profitability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and 5 years’ experience in merchandising or related field OR 7 years’ experience in merchandising or related field.
  • 4 years’ experience with direct responsibility for profit and loss (P&L) statements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement merchandising strategies based on member buying behaviors and industry trends to drive sales and enhance member value.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize assortment planning, item placement, and category management for cohesive member experiences.
  • Leverage data analysis and digital tools to anticipate market shifts, forecast demand, and mitigate risks impacting merchandise performance.
  • Lead supplier negotiations and partnerships to secure favorable terms and improve supply chain efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, coaching team members to innovate and execute merchandising initiatives aligned with business goals.
