About The Position

Under minimal direction, the Senior Director of IT Infrastructure is accountable for the effective and efficient delivery of IT infrastructure services, helping to safeguard the nation’s blood supply and supporting CTS’s growing plasma testing services. The Senior Director IT Infrastructure oversees infrastructure architecture and engineering, service management and delivery, end user and laboratory computing, and sourcing management through a mix of staff, a managed service provider, and vendor partners, holding all parties accountable for performance, service quality, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field of study, or relevant experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience leading comparable IT infrastructure teams, transforming functions, changing culture, and overseeing a mix of internally delivered functions and managed service providers.
  • Experience with developing business cases for IT investments.
  • Experience with leading the response to incidents, crises, and investigations with sensitivity, tenacity, and a focus on detail.
  • Experience in IT and security architecture and an environment with managed services and cloud solutions.
  • Experience in consultative stakeholder management and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers reliable, highly-available, high-performing, and secure infrastructure services. Holds teams accountable for outstanding infrastructure service performance and continuous improvement.
  • Ensures the security of infrastructure platforms and services by implementing secure by design architectures, robust controls, vulnerability management, rapid patching, and secure configuration practices across the environment.
  • Drives prevention and resolution of major incidents with due urgency. Ensures strong problem management and root cause analysis to identify and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and builds and maintains relationships with other IT and business leaders to develop a clear understanding of business needs. Ensures cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs, and responds with agility to changing business priorities.
  • Oversees infrastructure projects and ensures project activities, durations, and dependencies are well-defined. Ensures project results are achieved, and risks are identified and managed.
  • Develops the mission, vision, strategy, and roadmap for the infrastructure team, fostering a culture and mindset focused on high availability, system resilience, continuous improvement, security, and cost-effectiveness to service CTS’s systemic importance to the U.S. blood supply.
  • Provides strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation, and support of IT systems that fulfil the needs of the business. This scope includes the full life cycle of technical architecture, infrastructure engineering, infrastructure operations, and IT service support.
  • Continually advances and proceduralizes service management practices, “shifting left” whenever feasible.
  • Works with the IT leadership team on the service portfolio and governance required to prioritize resources.
  • Directs the development of the IT sourcing strategy and provides executive oversight of managed service providers and other strategic vendors.
  • Maintains knowledge on new technologies and services. Provides guidance on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated, and introduced to ensure IT capabilities respond to business needs.
  • Develops the annual operating and capital expenditure plan for infrastructure.
  • Participates in the IT organization's innovation efforts and in experimenting with new solutions to take advantage of business opportunities.
  • Forecasts future skill needs to acquire and develop an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills, and competencies that balance between growing the agility required to achieve business objectives and ensuring the core IT functions are reliable, stable, secure, and efficient.
  • Drives the development of enterprise technology architectures and standards, and performance metrics to ensure infrastructure and operations delivers value.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the Infrastructure team, and accepts and incorporates constructive feedback.
  • Recognizes that critical IT systems must operate 24x7x365 and understands the need for availability/work outside standard office hours.
  • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.
  • Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.
