Senior Director, Government Affairs
About The Position
The Senior Director, Government Affairs serves as a senior federal advocate responsible for advancing AdvaMed's legislative and regulatory priorities before Congress and the Administration. The position leads execution of complex advocacy initiatives through direct lobbying, member engagement, coalition participation, policy analysis, and stakeholder relationship management. The Senior Director serves as the lead Government Affairs representative for assigned technology sectors and policy portfolios, including the diabetes sector and issues related to Medicare coverage and payment, tax, and trade. Working closely with member companies, policymakers, coalition partners, and internal stakeholders, the position advances established advocacy priorities, builds support for policy objectives, and delivers meaningful outcomes for members and the medical technology industry.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 6+ years of federal government affairs, government relations, lobbying, congressional, Administration, trade association, or related experience
- Demonstrated experience conducting direct federal advocacy activities
- Experience working with member companies, associations, or coalition-based organizations
- Capitol Hill experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of federal legislative, regulatory, and political processes
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive relationships with congressional offices, Administration officials, policymakers, member companies, and industry stakeholders
- Strong verbal, written, presentation, and stakeholder-engagement skills
- Ability to translate complex policy issues into practical and persuasive communications
- Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in dynamic political and advocacy environments
- Strong consensus-building, facilitation, negotiation, and influencing skills
- Experience leading member committees, coalitions, working groups, or stakeholder-driven initiatives
- Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and a results-oriented approach to advocacy execution
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and functions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities
- Serves as a senior federal lobbyist advancing AdvaMed priorities before Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies
- Leads and implements legislative, regulatory, and appropriations advocacy plans supporting organizational objectives
- Develops and maintains productive relationships with congressional offices, Administration officials, policymakers, and external stakeholders
- Communicates AdvaMed policy positions through meetings, hearings, briefings, conferences, and other advocacy forums
- Monitors legislative and regulatory developments, assesses risks and opportunities, and recommends action plans to Government Affairs leadership
- Coordinates advocacy activities with coalition partners, consultants, and external stakeholders
- Serves as the lead Government Affairs contact for assigned technology sectors and policy portfolios, including diabetes and issues related to Medicare payment, tax, and trade
- Maintains strong relationships with member-company executives, government affairs professionals, and subject-matter experts
- Serves as principal staff liaison to assigned member committees, task forces, and working groups
- Facilitates policy discussions, stakeholder engagement, and consensus-building among members with differing perspectives
- Communicates relevant legislative, regulatory, and political developments to members and key stakeholders
- Drafts policy analyses, testimony, comments, position papers, briefing materials, talking points, correspondence, and executive communications
- Develops advocacy materials and messaging that support AdvaMed's legislative and regulatory priorities
- Partners with Communications, Health Policy, Legal, Regulatory, Membership, and other internal teams to implement advocacy initiatives and external engagement activities
- Leads and supervises multiple advocacy initiatives and special projects simultaneously
- Establishes priorities, supervises project execution, coordinates stakeholders, manages deliverables, and monitors progress against objectives
- Maintains accountability for outcomes across members, consultants, coalition partners, and internal stakeholders
- Ensures timely and effective execution of assigned advocacy efforts while balancing competing organizational priorities
