About The Position

The Senior Director, Global Commercial Data Platforms & AI Engineering is responsible for defining and leading the J&J Innovative Medicine global commercial data platform and ecosystem strategy that enables our global customer engagement platform, advances the AI-readiness of our data to support our expanding portfolio of agentic solutions, and powers decision-making across Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. This leader will provide the vision and lead Global operations to continuously advance the J&J Innovative Medicine commercial data environment across commercial data platforms, AI infrastructure and semantics, agentic AI capabilities, and reusable data products while ensuring alignment with regional operations, enterprise architecture, governance, privacy, and regulatory requirements. The role serves as a critical bridge between business strategy, business operations, data engineering, AI engineering, product teams, and technology organizations to ensure the delivery of secure, reusable, and scalable AI-ready data and solutions that accelerate business value. This individual will report directly to the VP, Global Commercial Data Platforms and AI Products within the Global Commercial Data and AI organization.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD, PharmD, MD, MBA, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 12+ years of experience in data, analytics, AI, software engineering, platforms, or technology leadership.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise data architecture, cloud platforms, data engineering, and modern analytics ecosystems.
  • Significant experience designing and deploying AI/ML solutions at enterprise scale.
  • Demonstrated expertise with generative AI, large language models, agentic AI systems, and AI product development.
  • Proven leadership experience building and scaling data engineering, machine learning engineering, or AI engineering organizations.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into technology capabilities and platform roadmaps.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, security, and responsible AI practices.
  • Experience leading large, cross-functional initiatives involving business, technology, and analytics stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to influence senior executives in a complex matrixed organization.
  • Strong financial and portfolio management skills.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success delivering measurable business value through data and AI investments.
  • Experience developing reusable enterprise capabilities that accelerate innovation across multiple business functions.

  • Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences industry experience.
  • Experience supporting commercial functions including launch planning, portfolio strategy, omnichannel engagement, forecasting, market access, patient analytics, or customer engagement.
  • Experience with enterprise data ecosystems such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS, or equivalent cloud environments.
  • Experience operationalizing AI platforms that support hundreds of users and multiple business domains.
  • Familiarity with Engagement.ai and related commercial AI products.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the long-term strategy for global commercial data platforms, including data architecture, data products, data democratization, data quality, interoperability, and scalable delivery of commercial insights. Lead evolution toward modern cloud-based architectures supporting self-service analytics and AI.
  • Build and scale AI engineering capabilities that operationalize machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI solutions across Innovative Medicine. Establish reusable frameworks, accelerators, model deployment standards, and platform services that enable rapid development and scaling of AI products.
  • Lead engineering teams responsible for platform architecture, data integration, orchestration, cloud infrastructure, MLOps, AIOps, and production deployment. Ensure reliable, secure, and compliant delivery of enterprise-scale solutions.
  • Partner closely with Commercial Strategy, Medical Affairs, Global Marketing, Regional Teams, Digital Product organizations, Technology Services, and Data Science leaders to identify opportunities where data, AI, and automation can drive measurable business impact and competitive advantage.
  • Build and develop a high-performing organization of data engineers, AI engineers, architects, and technical leaders. Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent GCDAI in enterprise AI, data, and technology councils.
  • Serve as a senior advisor on AI governance, platform strategy, and data architecture decisions.
  • Drive external partnerships with key technology vendors, platform providers, and strategic partners.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and lead pilot programs to assess strategic relevance and enterprise applicability.
