About The Position

The Senior Director, External Reporting and Technical Accounting will lead Inspire Medical Systems’ external reporting, technical accounting, and related governance processes. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing SEC filings, driving technical accounting conclusions, supporting Audit Committee and Board materials, and ensuring the Company maintains high-quality, timely, and compliant financial reporting as a public company. This leader will serve as a key advisor to Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, internal control stakeholders, external auditors, and outside counsel on complex accounting and disclosure matters. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, process-driven, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced public company environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting, external reporting, technical accounting, or audit experience.
  • Public company reporting experience, including direct involvement in SEC filings and disclosure requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting rules, financial statement presentation, disclosure requirements, and internal control expectations.
  • Experience researching and documenting technical accounting conclusions and applying accounting guidance to complex business transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, build disciplined processes, and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, judgment, written communication skills, and ability to translate complex accounting matters into clear business conclusions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Finance, Legal, external auditors, outside counsel, and senior leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Big Four public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Workiva or similar SEC reporting and disclosure management platforms.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing SEC filings beyond Forms 10-K and 10-Q, including Forms 8-K, proxy statement disclosures, registration statements, or other public company filings.
  • Experience supporting Audit Committee materials and communicating accounting or reporting matters to senior executives and governance stakeholders.
  • Experience with SOX compliance, disclosure controls and procedures, and coordination with internal control or business technology teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, review, and filing of all SEC reporting requirements, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy statement disclosures, earnings release support, and other public company filings.
  • Oversee the Company's external reporting process, including reporting calendars, disclosure controls, review procedures, documentation standards, and filing deadlines to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Research, evaluate, and document technical accounting conclusions under U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including preparation of technical accounting memoranda for significant or complex transactions.
  • Monitor and implement new accounting standards, SEC regulations, and disclosure requirements, ensuring compliance and effective adoption throughout the organization.
  • Serve as a key advisor to Finance leadership on technical accounting matters, financial reporting implications, accounting policy development, and disclosure considerations.
  • Partner with Legal, Investor Relations, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Stock Administration, Operations, and other business functions to ensure complete, accurate, and consistent external disclosures.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and outside counsel regarding SEC filings, technical accounting matters, disclosure requirements, and supporting documentation.
  • Support preparation of Audit Committee and Board materials related to financial reporting, accounting judgments, disclosure matters, regulatory developments, and internal control activities.
  • Oversee processes related to disclosure controls and procedures, SOX compliance, and internal controls associated with external reporting and technical accounting activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reporting quality, process efficiency, system utilization, documentation standards, and governance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members while fostering accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner to Finance leadership, providing technical expertise and practical guidance to support the Company's growth and strategic objectives.
  • Document product and therapy related field reports within the prescribed timelines and provide any necessary documents required to complete the investigation. Provide follow-up reporting as needed.
  • Complete training requirements and competency confirmations as required for this position within the required timeline.
  • Comply with applicable quality system procedures/policies and make suggestions for continuous process improvement.
  • Ensure all direct reports maintain training records that comply with applicable quality system requirements.
