Senior Director, Enterprise Platforms (US)

Code and TheoryNew York, NY
$225,000 - $300,000Hybrid

About The Position

This role leads the architecture pillar of the Adobe practice at Code and Theory, a digital-first creative and technology agency. The Senior Director will serve as the senior architectural authority across all Adobe engagements, providing technical direction, career growth, and advocacy for the team's architects. This position also involves being the technical representative of Code and Theory to Adobe, including their field teams and clients, and participating in solution shaping before development begins. It is a leadership role for a practicing architect who aims to build and lead a team of architects, rather than for someone who has stopped architecting.

Requirements

  • 20+ years in technology, with at least 5 years leading architects or senior technical staff globally (including India, LATAM).
  • Demonstrated ownership of performance reviews, career development, and compensation decisions.
  • Experience in an agency, consultancy, or systems integrator with multiple concurrent clients.
  • Experience delivering projects across the US, India, and LATAM.
  • Deep, hands-on architectural expertise in at least one of the following: Content and experience (AEM Sites and Assets, AEMaaCS, Edge Delivery Services, Forms, EDS), Data and personalization (Adobe Experience Platform, Real-Time CDP, Customer Journey Analytics, Journey Optimizer, Analytics, Target), or Work management and content supply chain (Workfront, Workfront Fusion, GenStudio, Firefly Services).
  • Working architectural knowledge across all three areas of expertise, sufficient for design reviews, decision challenges, and client conversations.
  • Experience with enterprise integration architecture (CRM, commerce, search, identity and SSO, analytics, data platforms).
  • Experience with modern architecture patterns (API-first, composable, headless vs. hybrid, cloud-native, event-driven).
  • Ability to read code, diagnose problems, and defend decisions, maintaining credibility with architects and engineers.
  • Proven experience leading complex projects involving Data migration, customer journeys, CSC, legacy CMS to AEM, on-premise to AEMaaCS, and into Edge Delivery Services.
  • Hands-on daily use of AI engineering tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor).
  • Demonstrated experience building agents, sub-agents, or orchestrated workflows, not just consuming AI tooling.
  • Track record of establishing AI-assisted practices across a team, including engaging skeptics.
  • Judgment regarding AI output and the ability to establish guardrails for human oversight.
  • Executive stakeholder management skills, including boardroom-level communication.
  • Experience with enterprise clients across the US, EU, and APAC.
  • Experience leading distributed teams across time zones with genuine working relationships in offshore delivery centers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial negotiations and contract development.
  • Comfort operating in a practice that is being built rather than one that is already running.

Responsibilities

  • Own architectural quality across all Adobe engagements, including content, data, and work management.
  • Conduct architecture reviews that drive significant outcomes and establish standards for them.
  • Define and maintain architecture standards, reference architectures, decision records, and reusable patterns.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex design and integration challenges, intervening when engagements are architecturally off-track.
  • Develop accelerators and asset libraries (e.g., migration tooling, discovery frameworks, estimation models, solution blueprints) to improve engagement efficiency.
  • Hire, develop, and lead a distributed team of multi-solution architects specializing in content, data, and work management.
  • Manage performance, career development, and compensation decisions for the team, advocating for their work.
  • Mentor architects across various specializations, demonstrating credibility in areas like data architecture and Adobe Edge Delivery Services.
  • Establish efficient cross-engagement collaboration strategies for architects to prevent overextension.
  • Foster a culture of clear communication, decision documentation, and the ability to decline work when necessary.
  • Lead technical solutioning for enterprise pursuits, including architecture narratives, effort estimation, staffing, and scope definition.
  • Collaborate with sales, client partners, and Adobe alliance leads on deal strategies.
  • Translate business problems into scalable Adobe architectures and communicate technical complexity into executive-level value propositions.
  • Develop and enforce estimation discipline to ensure credible commitments and track estimate-versus-actual accuracy.
  • Implement agentic engineering as the standard working methodology, not an experiment.
  • Build and deploy agents, sub-agents, and orchestrated workflows to accelerate discovery, documentation, estimation, code review, and migration.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging AI capabilities within the Adobe stack and beyond, establishing safety guardrails for client-facing output.
  • Mentor architects on AI-native working practices, including those who are skeptical.
  • Oversee pre-sales activities, including estimation, staffing models, scope definition, pricing input, and client presentations.
  • Manage executive stakeholder relationships, capable of handling boardroom conversations and architecture reviews.
  • Understand utilization, margin, and the impact of inaccurate estimates on both architectural and commercial success.
  • Own the technical relationship with Adobe's field, product, and partner organizations.
  • Represent Code and Theory in Adobe's partner ecosystem (beta programs, Experience League, user groups, Summit).
  • Integrate Adobe's roadmap into the practice and share field learnings back with Adobe.
  • Engage in commercial negotiations and contract development.
  • Lead distributed teams across time zones, fostering genuine working relationships with offshore delivery centers.
  • Operate effectively in a practice that is actively being built.
  • Travel for client engagements, Adobe events, and team visits.
