The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. The Research, Implementation, and Safety Unit (RIS) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes. RIS uses a data-driven approach to design and implement street safety redesign projects, administer safety programs, promote senior and youth safety, manage crash data and data applications, conduct large-scale safety research projects, and lead agency action plans related to safety and Vision Zero programs/policy. This is an opportunity to work with a team dedicated to improving safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout New York City. RIS’s Data Operations, Systems, and Analytics (DOSA) unit is seeking an experienced and motivated candidate for the Senior Director position. The DOSA team incorporates data engineering, data management, data analysis, data solutions, and application design into a single group. DOSA is a team of data specialists that ensures accuracy and efficiency for data analytics, data products, and insights that the agency relies on to accomplish its data-driven mission. The successful candidate must be highly experienced in managing a portfolio of projects related to data management, analysis, and developing products and applications. They should be capable of managing and conducting advanced analysis to answer new research questions and collaborating cross-functionally with other teams working on those projects. The candidate must respond to frequent, quick turnaround requests from high-level officials within DOT and City leadership. The role will also collaborate with and support other divisions with data products, programs, and management. The candidate should also have experience in managing a team of data scientists and be committed to promoting a positive work environment and opportunities for the professional growth and development of staff. Candidates should be highly experienced with SQL, PostGIS, GIT, and Python, as well as development, management, and deployment of web applications. Data engineering, visualization, as well as geospatial and statistical analysis skills are required. The ideal candidate should have proven experience working with large, diverse datasets, data modeling, and data integration. A successful candidate should be committed to the goals of DOT and the Vision Zero initiative.
