About The Position

This position is a senior nursing director role responsible for the oversight and management of multiple patient care areas, including perioperative services in both in-patient and out-patient settings. The role requires advanced progressive management and leadership experience in managing large programmatic and strategic responsibilities, including interdisciplinary collaboration, financial management, quality improvement, and patient experience across several areas. The Director will support, mentor, and coach nurse managers and other nurse leaders, adhering to AONL core leadership competencies. This role is crucial in ensuring shared governance and the enculturation of Magnet standards. Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive nursing leadership experience at the director level.
  • Registered Nurse with a Masters Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration.
  • CT RN License required.
  • Effective Communication (Leadership Competency): Produce cogent & persuasive written materials to address nursing, health care & organizational issues.
  • Relationship Management: Build trusting, collaborative relationships.
  • Collaborates with clinical and nonclinical administrative leadership to develop strategic & operational plans for assigned clinical service lines/departments.
  • Support shared governance by providing an environment conducive to opinion sharing.
  • Clinical Practice Knowledge: Maintain knowledge of current nursing practice in area of specialty & the roles & functions of patient care team members.
  • Ensure that written organization clinical policies & procedures are reviewed & updated in accordance with evidence based practice.
  • Evidence based Practice: Utilize research/EBP findings for the establishments of standards, practices, and patient care models of the organization.
  • Facilitate & or Participate in studies that provide outcome measures.
  • Quality & Safety: Identify, develop, monitor patient care quality improvement goals & objectives.
  • Regulatory & Risk Management: Knowledge of federal & state laws and regulations that impact the provision of patient care.
  • Knowledge of patient care standards as published by the Joint Commission, CMS, and professional Nursing literature.
  • Understand, articulate and ensure compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing regulations, regulatory agency standards and the policies of the Organization.
  • Monitor clinical activities to identify both expected and unexpected risks.

  • Human Resource Management: Interpret and evaluate employee/nursing engagement/quality work surveys.
  • Manage performance through reward and recognition, counseling, and disciplinary action.
  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Strategic Management: Participate in and monitoring of the Organizational and Nursing Strategic plan.
  • Conduct SWOT and GAP analyses as needed.
  • Formulate objectives, goals, and specific strategies related to mission and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for more than 2 clinical departments or programs with greater than 150 FTE's, including Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers.
  • Responsible for Organizational and/or Nursing strategic plan development and execution.
  • Responsible for developing, monitoring, and adherence to annual operations and capital budgets for multiple units or departments.
  • Oversight and/or Management of interdisciplinary projects and initiatives to meet strategic initiatives and goals.
  • Responsible for organizational clinical education and professional development across a number of disciplines and manages all clinical affiliations for Nursing.
  • Responsible for Patient experience, quality, regulatory, and safety oversight over multiple departments.
