This is a founder-level scope with institutional backing: an experienced independent Board, GII's national platform, and a member network with demonstrated demand for capital.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or a related field required.
  • Ten or more years of progressive commercial lending experience, including credit for capital projects such as leasehold improvements, equipment and real estate.

  • Ability to establish trust and credibility with local Goodwill members, investors, GMJCS Board members and GII colleagues.
  • Expertise in loan structuring, negotiation and credit risk management.
  • Ability to independently underwrite commercial loans, present recommendations to a credit committee, and manage borrower relationships through repayment.
  • Ability to advise organizations on capital planning and financing options across economic development financing tools and institutions.
  • Ability to support nonprofit boards and committees: materials, recommendations and follow-through on board direction.
  • Support in the fundraising, investor relations and impact reporting for a capital fund.
  • Ability to establish policies, processes and systems that scale as the funds grow.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong financial modeling in Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, CFA or formal bank credit training preferred.
  • Experience standing up, growing or leading a loan fund, CDFI or specialty finance platform preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the re-launch and growth of GMJCS: the systems, processes, internal controls and service provider relationships required to originate, underwrite, close, service and monitor loans at scale.
  • Develop and execute the annual operating plan, budget and multi-year growth strategy, including new capital products such as grants and blended structures.
  • Maintain GMJCS governing documents, credit policies, underwriting standards and loan documentation, and manage their review and approval by the GMJCS Board.
  • Provide financial consultations to members on capital planning, debt capacity, financing options and project feasibility, extending GII's existing consultation services.
  • Advise members on the right financing structure for each project, whether GMJCS funds, commercial lenders, CDFIs or philanthropic sources, with referrals when GMJCS is not the fit.
  • Convert advisory work into a qualified borrower pipeline and improvements to GMJCS capital products.
  • Build the borrower pipeline: educate members on available capital and guide applicants through eligibility and application requirements.
  • Underwrite loan requests under GMJCS credit policies, applying financial modeling, GAAP and cash flow analysis to project review, site diligence and risk rating.
  • Present credit analyses and recommendations to GII management and the GMJCS Credit Committee.
  • Manage each loan through its full lifecycle: closing, disbursement, servicing, repayment and, when necessary, workout.
  • Monitor borrower performance through repayment: covenant compliance, financial reporting, risk ratings, watch list management and delinquency response.
  • Report portfolio performance to GII leadership, the GMJCS Board and investors.
  • Lead capitalization and fundraising: investor and funder materials, cultivation of member investors and philanthropic funders and closing of commitments, in partnership with the GII Development team, which leads donor and funder relationships across GII.
  • Manage investor and funder relationships through the life of each commitment: agreements, capital calls and drawdowns, repayment schedules and recurring reporting.
  • Deliver stewardship and impact reporting that scales with capital under management.
  • Plan and support GMJCS Board and Credit Committee meetings: agendas, materials, minutes, resolutions and follow-up actions.
  • Lead GII in its role as originator, underwriter and servicer for GMJCS, convening GII resources to support loans and borrowers.
  • Partner with GII Finance on accounting, audit, tax, treasury and compliance, and coordinate with legal counsel on documentation, corporate filings and supporting organization requirements.
  • Develop fund communications: program descriptions, application materials, borrower success stories and updates for members, investors and GII leadership, in coordination with the GII Marketing team.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the success of GII, GMJCS and Goodwill members.

Benefits

  • Goodwill is one of the largest social enterprises in North America: approximately 150 independent member organizations, roughly 3,300 stores, and about $9 billion in annual network revenue.
  • The network is remaking how it operates. Modern stores. New donation acquisition infrastructure. Proven practices deployed at scale.
  • The Goodwill Growth and Modernization Fund removes that constraint. GGMF is a revolving loan fund providing below-market financing for member modernization and growth projects.
  • It operates through Goodwill Mission and Job Creation Services, Inc. (GMJCS), an existing 501(c)(3) supporting organization of Goodwill Industries International (GII), governed by an independent board seated in June 2026.
  • The model is proven, not theoretical. A predecessor fund deployed $8.7 million across 12 Goodwill organizations from 2013 to 2019 with 100 percent repayment and zero credit losses. Those dollars produced 664 direct jobs and approximately $390 million in annualized community wages.
  • This role builds what comes next.
  • This is a founder-level scope with institutional backing: an experienced independent Board, GII's national platform, and a member network with demonstrated demand for capital.
  • Executive leader of GMJCS, accountable for re-launching, operating and scaling the organization and the capital funds it administers, including GGMF and successor funds.
  • Directs all lending operations under Board-approved credit policies, serves as capital advisor to Goodwill members, leads the capitalization and fundraising of GMJCS funds, and serves as primary staff liaison to the GMJCS Board and Credit Committee.
  • Leads GII in fulfilling its role as administrator and servicer for GMJCS under the Administration Agreement between GII and GMJCS.
  • Broad decision-making authority over GMJCS operations, priorities and resources within Board-approved policies and budgets.
  • Monitors and assesses credit, portfolio and operational risks and opportunities.
  • Makes credit recommendations to the Credit Committee and policy and strategy recommendations to GII leadership and the GMJCS Board.
  • General, with wide latitude for independent judgment and action. The work is reviewed primarily for results against Board-approved plans, policies and budgets.
  • Sedentary, lifting 10 pounds maximum. Walking or standing is required only occasionally. Requires long hours at a computer. Travel is required.
