Role Summary: The Product Owner serves as the day-to-day contact for the engineering team, providing clarity to tasks and refining the backlog. They help coordinate efforts with engineering partners to streamline work and manage dependencies across our website architecture and aftermarket experience platforms. Working closely with the Product Managers, they help prioritize and sequence work to ensure development efforts align with business goals and customer needs.

Requirements

  • Business Analysis: Knowledge of business analysis and the set of tasks, techniques and tools required to identify business needs; ability to recommend solutions that deliver value to stakeholders.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Software Change Request Management: Knowledge of software change request management; ability to manage software product change requests from customers, prospective customers, vendors, and internal staff.
  • Software Engineering: Knowledge of software engineering; ability to deliver new or enhanced fee-based software products.
  • Software Problem Management: Knowledge of strategies, practices and tools for resolving software problems; ability to manage software problems in installed software products.
  • Software Product Business Knowledge: Knowledge of and experience with the business aspects and operation of a software product; ability to manage install base, current uses, future plans, and product vision.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner responsible for a digital marketing website, with strong exposure to site structure, architecture, or customer journey optimization.
  • Comfortable working in a complex, matrixed organization where influencing without formal authority is required.
  • Technical acumen with understanding of content management systems, APIs, and platform architecture, enabling effective collaboration on website and experience design.
  • Ability to lead conversations among diverse stakeholders to build consensus and keep cross-functional teams aligned on key objectives.
  • Experience analyzing complex customer journey or aftermarket experience challenges to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Ability to distinguish between assumptions, stakeholder perspectives, and legacy frameworks to ensure enhancements are grounded in strategic clarity.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to balance empathy and assertiveness when advocating for product direction across organizational levels.
  • Experience working alongside UX and design teams to optimize customer-facing digital experiences, site navigation, and content architecture.
  • Experience in industries such as heavy equipment, automotive, or other sectors with complex product ecosystems and aftermarket needs.
  • Familiarity with the Caterpillar ecosystem, dealer network, or a similar distribution model.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment while managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, prioritize, and refine the cat.com site structure and aftermarket experience product backlog to ensure alignment with product strategy, technical dependencies, and sprint capacity.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact between the engineering team and the product manager, ensuring clear understanding of goals, scope, and priorities.
  • Refine product requirements with input from business partners and internal teams to develop detailed user stories and acceptance criteria focused on site navigation, content structure, and aftermarket journeys.
  • Partner with engineering leads to plan sprint objectives, clarify requirements, and ensure deliverables align with the product roadmap.
  • Collaborate with engineering leads to size and refine stories, address technical questions, and validate feasibility before implementation.
  • Validate deliverables meet acceptance criteria and deliver a seamless, intuitive customer experience across cat.com before release.
  • Contribute to sprint retrospectives and continuous improvement efforts to optimize team processes, communication, and delivery.
