Senior Digital Product Designer, Design Systems

SandiskMilpitas, CA
$121,400 - $206,400Hybrid

About The Position

We're looking for a Senior Digital Product Designer, Design Systems to help scale and evolve the design system that powers our products across platforms. This role will own the evolution of our design foundations, including design tokens, component architecture, theming capabilities, interaction patterns, accessibility standards, and implementation quality. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Brand, and Design teams, this designer will help ensure consistency, scalability, and efficiency across all customer experiences. The ideal candidate combines strong systems thinking with deep interaction and visual design expertise, enabling them to translate complex product requirements into reusable, extensible, and developer-friendly design solutions. This is primarily a design systems role: 80% of your time will be dedicated to owning, scaling, and evolving the design system. The remaining 20% will be spent contributing to broader product work: supporting ongoing feature improvements, designing new feature UI/UX flows, wireframing, and user testing.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of atomic design principles.
  • Expertise in design system architecture, including tokens, component libraries, reusable patterns, governance, and scalable cross-platform foundations.
  • A track record of building and evolving design systems for complex digital products, with 6+ years in product design, including 2+ years focused on design systems.
  • Strong interaction and visual design skills.
  • Systems-thinking mindset.
  • Cross-platform UX experience.
  • Accessibility-first design approach.
  • Ability to balance consistency with product flexibility.
  • Experience partnering closely with front-end engineers.
  • Strong understanding of design-to-development workflows, implementation constraints, technical tradeoffs, and design QA practices.
  • Advanced Figma expertise, including libraries, variables, and design system management.
  • Strong prototyping, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to present system decisions and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Visual/Graphic Design, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in accessibility, UX/interaction design, or design systems–related programs.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve our design token architecture across color, typography, spacing, motion, elevation, iconography, and semantic foundations, with strategies that hold up across themes, platforms, and future needs.
  • Design, document, test, and maintain reusable UI components and patterns that meet accessibility requirements and platform conventions.
  • Work with product designers to turn emerging product needs into system solutions, balancing consistency against product constraints.
  • Partner with Engineering to set implementation standards, align on component architecture and APIs, and hold quality through design QA and implementation reviews.
  • Scale the system across mobile, tablet, and desktop with responsive, platform-appropriate behavior, plus flexible theming, localization, and internationalization.
  • Spot system gaps and build solutions ahead of upcoming product work.
  • Set governance, documentation, and adoption standards that keep the system consistent and maintainable over time.
  • Educate and support designers and developers in the effective use of the design system.
  • Champion consistency, scalability, and design excellence by promoting system-driven thinking across teams.
  • Measure and continuously improve the design system's effectiveness, quality, and adoption.
  • Contribute to broader product design work, including new feature flows, journey mapping, wireframing, and concepting to support user testing and product exploration.
