About The Position

The Office of Technology Services (OTS), Architecture, Standards & Platform (ASP) section is seeking an experienced, hands-on engineer for its Platform Engineering team. The position designs, develops, and supports automated infrastructure and software delivery solutions using cloud technologies, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and container platforms. The team works with state agencies and development teams to create reusable deployment patterns, improve developer productivity, and establish secure, standardized, and reliable application delivery practices. The position designs, develops, and maintains IaC solutions using technologies such as Terraform, OpenTofu, Bicep, or equivalent tools to automate cloud infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management. It bridges application development and operations through platform integrations, automation, and consulting, enabling teams to adopt repeatable delivery patterns aligned with OTS standards. The Division of Administration is the state government’s management arm and the hub of its financial operations. The Office of Technology Services aims to deliver innovative, effective, and reliable solutions supporting Executive Branch Departments, increase the return on the State’s technology investment, improve project success, and foster a skilled and professional staff. Appointment is limited to promotion of a current permanent-status Office of State Technology employee. A permanent-status employee may be required to serve a new probationary period in lieu of promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and document automation and integrations across the DevOps toolchain, including source control, CI, artifact management, deployments, observability, and work management.
  • Develop and maintain reusable “golden paths” and building blocks, such as templates, reference repositories, reusable workflows, standard configurations, and runbooks.
  • Implement and maintain secure-by-default delivery automation and deployment patterns, including environment configuration standards, secrets handling, and repeatable promotion practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline, deployment, and environment issues; perform root cause analysis and implement preventative improvements, including support for complex and critical incidents within the assigned technology scope.
  • Partner with platform owners and technical leadership to align integrations and automation with enterprise standards and long-term maintainability.
  • Consult with application teams and operations stakeholders on standard pipelines, deployment processes, and observability patterns, tailoring guidance to project needs while preserving enterprise consistency.
  • Assess delivery requirements and maturity and identify practical improvements to reliability and delivery outcomes, such as branch protections, automated checks, release strategies, environment promotion, and monitoring baselines.
  • Create enablement documentation and onboarding guides, and help teams transition bespoke solutions to supported, repeatable platform patterns where appropriate.
  • Contribute to and maintain DevOps platform standards, procedures, and guidelines, including standard configurations and recommended delivery patterns.
  • Recommend improvements to platform services and integrations to increase performance, resiliency, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Research and evaluate DevOps tools, platforms, and software, documenting recommendations based on security, maintainability, usability, and total cost of ownership.
  • Help define and refine measures of adoption and maturity and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coach developers and platform team members on CI/CD practices, automation patterns, and platform usage through pairing, reviews, and informal training.
  • Review pipeline and automation changes for quality, consistency, and maintainability, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Lead or contribute to at least one knowledge-sharing activity per year, such as demos, brown bags, written guidance, or internal documentation improvements.
  • Perform other tasks, special projects, analysis, studies, and plans as directed.
