About The Position

D-Wave is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer (Platform Operations, Security & Observability) to join their DevOps team. This role involves operating and improving hybrid infrastructure across AWS, on-premises environments, Kubernetes platforms, and software delivery pipelines. Responsibilities will focus on platform operations and software delivery, security and infrastructure hardening, or monitoring and observability. The engineer will work closely with hardware, software, and DevOps teams, owning operational issues and technical initiatives end-to-end to support D-Wave’s quantum computing services and hardware-integrated systems. The position combines hands-on support with engineering improvements for system reliability, security, and maintainability. This is a hybrid role based in New Haven, CT, requiring at least three days per week on-site, though remote candidates may be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, systems engineering, site reliability engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own production systems or technical initiatives, balancing day-to-day support with longer-term engineering improvements
  • Substantial hands-on experience in one or more of the following: platform operations and software delivery, security and infrastructure hardening, or monitoring and observability
  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills across applications and infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience supporting and operating AWS infrastructure
  • Practical experience deploying and troubleshooting Docker and Kubernetes workloads
  • Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines and supporting software deployments
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or equivalent tools
  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, or similar languages for automation and troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, routing, firewalls, and TLS
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure security practices and monitoring and logging tools
  • Ability to prioritize competing needs, communicate technical trade-offs, and contribute to mentoring, technical reviews, and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day support for AWS applications and shared infrastructure, resolving deployment, configuration, and runtime issues
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and software release processes using tools such as GitHub Actions, including deployment reliability and recovery
  • Support repository onboarding, access requests, and ticketed infrastructure work, improving consistency through automation and self-service
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Python, and Bash
  • Strengthen security across AWS, Kubernetes, and on-premises environments through access controls, secrets management, hardening, and patching, in partnership with enterprise security teams
  • Integrate security scanning into engineering workflows and coordinate the prioritization and remediation of findings
  • Support compliance evidence collection and Vanta workflows, incorporating security requirements into platform development and cloud migrations
  • Improve monitoring, logging, dashboards, and alerting using tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, OpenSearch, CloudWatch, and Grafana
  • Partner with application owners to improve instrumentation, define meaningful measures of service health, and improve production readiness
  • Improve alert quality and develop runbooks to support effective incident response
  • Lead complex troubleshooting and incident resolution across applications and infrastructure, driving root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Collaborate across teams, mentor teammates, and contribute to technical design, code reviews, and documentation
