As a Senior DevOps Engineer within the Unified Cloud & Infrastructure Services team, you will serve not only as a senior technical contributor, but also as a trusted engineering leader, mentor, and change agent for the Sovereign Cloud Platform Services (SCPS) engineering organization. In this role, you will drive engineering excellence by establishing technical standards, improving development and operational processes, driving architectural consistency, and promoting modern DevOps practices across teams. You will partner closely with engineering managers, architects, product teams, and project managers to ensure successful execution of strategic initiatives while helping build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational maturity. You will be expected to lead by example, influence without authority, and serve as a recognized thought leader whose technical judgment, leadership, and delivery discipline help elevate the effectiveness of the broader engineering organization.

Requirements

6+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Platform Engineering, or DevOps.
Strong understanding of SAP workloads and infrastructure requirements, including S/4HANA, HANA, ECC, BTP, HCM, and IBP.
Deep expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with exposure to multi-cloud and OpenStack environments.
Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, platform engineering, automation, reliability, and security best practices.
Experience supporting regulated and compliance-driven environments (FedRAMP, NIST, DoD, or similar frameworks).
Proven expertise in CI/CD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Crossplane, Ansible, and Docker.
Demonstrated success driving engineering maturity, process improvements, and organizational change across multiple teams.
Experience leading complex technical initiatives involving engineering, infrastructure, operations, and product organizations.
Strong ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
Proven track record of improving delivery effectiveness, engineering standards, and operational excellence.
Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
Ability to influence without direct authority and build consensus across diverse teams.
Passion for mentoring engineers and developing high-performing engineering organizations.
Experience leading as a leader or thought leader in large enterprise organization leading/supporting complex teams (engineering, operations, DevOps) and projects a plus.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate secure, scalable, and compliant cloud platforms across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OpenStack environments.
Provide technical leadership for SAP product enablement, modernization, and sovereign cloud initiatives.
Establish and drive adoption of cloud architecture standards, engineering best practices, automation frameworks, and operational models across SCPS.
Review solution designs and guide teams to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and long-term maintainability.
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to engineering teams, project leaders, and business stakeholders.
Lead and support multiple strategic, high-impact engineering initiatives from planning through execution.
Drive continuous improvements in engineering processes, Agile delivery, workload management, operational readiness, and execution effectiveness.
Partner with project managers and engineering leaders to remove delivery obstacles, manage dependencies, and ensure project success.
Standardize operational procedures, documentation, and support practices to improve consistency, efficiency, and reliability.
Promote data-driven decision making through meaningful engineering metrics and operational KPIs.
Build scalable, cloud-agnostic automation solutions and platform services.
Design and implement CI/CD and GitOps workflows using GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, and Concourse.
Automate infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management using Terraform, Crossplane, Helm, Kustomize, and Ansible.
Champion Infrastructure-as-Code, automation-first principles, platform engineering, and operational excellence practices.
Mentor engineers and help develop technical capabilities across the organization.
