About The Position

Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. In the Body In White (BIW) discipline, the Senior Engineer is responsible to lead the engineering activities relating to the design and development of the vehicle BIW system. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and Tier 2 suppliers.

  • 10+ years body engineering (BIW) development
  • Experience in Complete Vehicle development and manufacture
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with global teams
  • Experience in launching a complete vehicle
  • Experience in design release and testing of components and assemblies
  • Experience in ferrous and non-ferrous stampings, hydroform, transfer, deep draw and progressive die
  • Experience in composites, Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) and Resin Transfer Molding (RTM)
  • Experience in non-ferrous extrusions, forming and bending
  • Experience in castings, ferrous and non-ferrous materials
  • Experience in welding, spot/resistance, Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Laser and Friction Stir Welding (FSW)
  • Experience in bonding and adhesive selection
  • Experience in fastening, threaded, riveted, and clip retainer fasteners
  • Experience in class “A” painting and corrosion protection
  • Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Professional Communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer
  • May require local, domestic, and international travel – less than 15% domestic + international

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising technical personnel preferred
  • Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred
  • Six Sigma certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and growth of the engineering team
  • Support Technical Area (TA) core competencies
  • Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices
  • Lead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase
  • Propose and lead advanced development topics supporting the GTA
  • Propose continuous improvement opportunities to level up team skills, qualifications, tools and processes
  • Lead design proposals with set based engineering principles
  • Lead designs with 6 Sigma design principles
  • Support complex problem solving with cross functional teams
  • Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystems
  • Support the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestones
  • Lead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development
  • Support work development packages assigned to third parties
  • Confirm OEM and magna project performance targets and assure the targets are achievable
  • Confirm OEM and magna project cost and timing targets and assure the targets are achievable
  • Support the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reporting
  • Be responsible for the release of Computer Aided Design (CAD) data into internal and external sites
  • Be responsible for the release of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), simulations and studies into internal or external sites
  • Be responsible for designs capable of meeting the serial production tact, First Time Quality (FTQ) and ergo targets
  • Be responsible for designs meeting the project performance and cost targets
  • Be responsible for designs meeting market region regulations, FMVSS, ECE, CNCA/GB, etc.
  • Confirm the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) comprehends all project targets and is complete
  • Confirm the project Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) comprehends all product risks and product usage cases
  • Lead global development touchpoint and milestone meetings
  • Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility
  • Collaborate with the Design Studio to assure product appearance harmony
  • Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions
  • Collaborate with the other project GTAs
  • Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions
  • Ensure cooperation with project management
  • Ensure cooperation with all other groups within the area
  • Secure knowledge of development tools within the group
  • Ensure training of employees according to the required skills
  • Cooperation with all Magna Steyr locations
  • Escalation problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members
