About The Position

Health Access Solutions is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the design-to-code pipeline for their member-facing and internal applications. This role is crucial for ensuring the platform looks, feels, and functions beautifully for its users. The position sits at the intersection of product design and frontend engineering, involving the creation of high-fidelity mockups from approved requirements, validation with stakeholders, and building these designs into production applications using an agent-driven development workflow with React/TypeScript and AI-assisted tools. The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for design consistency, accessibility, and UX quality across the HAS Suite, freeing up engineering leads to focus on core backend systems. This is an opportunity to join a small, growing engineering team and help shape design and frontend practices.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in product design, UI/UX, or frontend development, including experience leading design work.
  • Expert-level CSS and strong working knowledge of HTML and JavaScript.
  • Experience building or maintaining a design system used by a development team.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted and agentic development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) in real projects.
  • Working familiarity with React and component-based architecture, with the aptitude and drive to reach independent production capability in our stack.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Willingness to complete HIPAA/data-handling training and a background check, as this role touches member-facing surfaces in a regulated healthcare environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, benefits administration, or other regulated data environments.
  • Accessibility (WCAG) experience on production applications.
  • Experience designing and building spec-driven or automated design-to-development workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Translate approved product requirements and acceptance criteria into wireframes and high-fidelity mockups using AI-assisted design tooling.
  • Own and evolve the HAS design system: components, tokens, layout patterns, and usage standards.
  • Run usability validation sessions with internal stakeholders and member services teams; incorporate feedback into design iterations.
  • Ensure WCAG AA accessibility compliance across member-facing surfaces.
  • Ensure responsive design for all member facing applications.
  • Build production frontend features from approved mockups using our agentic workflow (Cursor, SpecKit) against the HAS component library.
  • Author the UX layer of executable specs: interaction states, loading and error handling, responsive behavior, and visual acceptance criteria.
  • Grow toward independently debugging and hardening frontend code in our stack (React, TypeScript, GraphQL client patterns).
  • Perform visual and functional QA on agent-generated output before release; enforce design consistency across applications.
  • Verify built features against specs and mockups, including edge states and cross-device behavior.
  • Contribute UI-level test coverage and participate in release validation.
  • Partner with the Product Manager, who owns requirements and acceptance criteria, to ensure designs faithfully reflect approved scope.
  • Collaborate with principal engineers, who own spec and test rigor for payment, authentication, and PHI-handling paths.
  • Coordinate with third-party contractors on frontend delivery as needed.
  • Set the standard for design and frontend craft as the team grows, mentoring future designers or frontend hires on the HAS design system and agentic workflow.

Benefits

  • 401(k) matching
  • Paid time off
  • Training & development
  • Wellness resources
