Senior Design Engineer
About The Position
This position is responsible for designing, developing, and testing new products using disciplined engineering methods within the Stage Gate process. The role involves creating new concepts for patentable designs, providing engineering leadership on projects, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. The Senior Design Engineer will work collaboratively with the engineering team, interact daily with stakeholders, and make timely, data-based decisions to drive projects forward. This role requires self-discipline, drive, and focus to execute new product development tasks efficiently, including drawing, test plan, and technical manual creation, product failure analysis, and in-field investigations. Travel up to 20% may be required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering or related field
- Electrical Engineers considered if a strong mechanical background is presented
- Minimum 7 years design engineering experience in new product development.
- SolidWorks proficiency required
- Precise and articulate written and verbal communication skills include group presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.
- Consistently operates at the highest level of integrity never compromises the team’s ethical standards.
Nice To Haves
- Food or meat processing, capital equipment, or industrial design experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test new products using disciplined engineering methods within the context of the Stage Gate process.
- Create new concepts that contribute to patentable designs.
- Provide engineering leadership on individual projects by building project plans and managing resources across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications.
- Work in a collaborative environment with the engineering team to develop new ideas and challenge the current conditions improving individual and team performance.
- Interact daily with stakeholders across the organization to facilitate completion of projects.
- Make timely decisions based on risks and available information to keep projects moving forward with expediency.
- Ensure decisions are data based and prepare documentation to support conclusions through reporting, data analysis, and professional means.
- Apply self-discipline, drive, and focus to efficiently and effectively execute all tasks related to new product development throughout the process including tasks such as drawing, test plan, and technical manual creation, product failure analysis, and in-field investigations.
- Performs additional duties as needed and/or assigned by supervisor/manager.
