About The Position

Axiom Custom Products is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join their growing Engineering team. This role is crucial in transforming client designs into high-quality, custom-built products by leveraging expertise in SolidWorks and fabrication practices. The Design Engineer will create manufacturable designs, ensure project success, and work collaboratively within cross-functional teams. The position is not remote and is based at Axiom's fabrication shop.

Requirements

  • Over 6 years of experience in SolidWorks.
  • Understanding of architectural and mechanical drawings.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and finishing processes.
  • Understanding of a wide variety of materials (e.g., metals, woods, plastics, etc.).
  • Understanding of structural steel design and fabrication.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Expert in manufacturing process.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working as a builder, fabricator, tradesperson, or installer is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure designs are profitable and within established budgets.
  • Work closely with internal teams to understand design criteria, project requirements, and objectives.
  • Generate accurate and detailed SolidWorks models and drawings that adhere to project requirements and Axiom standards.
  • Create accurate bills of materials and parts lists that can be imported directly into production work orders and used for purchasing.
  • Incorporate Axiom’s machines, tooling, equipment, resources, and processes into designs.
  • Validate designs to ensure profitability, feasibility, and alignment with client requirements.
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable without undue challenges, considering manufacturing processes, material availability, and practicality of construction.
  • Complete work within specified times and adhere to due dates, understanding billable hours sold and working within those constraints.
  • Collaborate to refine designs and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical expertise to guide project managers, account managers, and sales teams in developing proposals that meet client needs.
  • Translate conceptual designs, napkin sketches, or creative imagery into comprehensive assemblies and detailed production plans.
  • Evaluate and select materials based on project specifications and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that designs are manufacturable and installable, considering manufacturing capabilities and constraints, as well as logistic and site conditions.
  • Create accurate SolidWorks models + drawings according to Axiom standards.
  • Take direction from senior team members.
  • Execute work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Communicate clearly and openly.
  • Execute a design seamlessly from inception to production with little, if any, guidance from management.
  • Assist in the performance and growth of their team.
  • Collaborate with peers and strive to perform better every day.
