About IPSD: Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future. Job Summary: As the Senior Design Engineer, you will be on the IPSD-L Piston, Ring, and Liner (PRL) core component engineering team supporting key functions including but not limited to New Product Introduction, New Source Introduction, Continuous Product Improvement, and Cost Reduction. You will collaborate within our team, but also extensively with a broader set of process partners including procurement, supplier development engineering, system integration, and engine platform teams. This role will serve as the single point of contact with accountability for all aspects of a given PRL system, with support from within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Evaluate designs for NPI, NSI, CPI, and Cost Reduction efforts to ensure program requirements and timelines are met.
  • Coordinate PRL hardware for lab testing following ISO documentation procedures to maintain traceability
  • Conduct in-test and post-test PRL specific analysis including oil consumption, blowby, and wear life projections of various components.
  • Maintain ownership of a subset of the PRL design control executing print releasing, deviations, and Process Change Notifications on time.
  • Collaborate with our global supply base to ensure issues are resolved quickly and quality expectations are being met.
  • Develop basic skill in relevant simulation tools to enable simulation led design to aid in concept analysis and selection.
