About The Position

Our Test Systems Engineering team in Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Senior Design Drafter to join them. You will report to the Drafting Section Head and will have a hybrid work schedule in Elma, NY. As Senior Design Drafter, you’ll play a key role in developing new product processes and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies for tooling and work holding. In this role, you’ll take ownership of complex tool and fixture designs, applying engineering principles to deliver innovative solutions that support both prototype and production environments.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a technical field (Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology preferred).
  • 5+ years of drafting/design experience.
  • Strong CAD skills (Siemens NX/Unigraphics experience is a plus).
  • In-depth knowledge of machine shop practices, fabrication methods, descriptive geometry, dimensioning techniques, and geometric tolerancing (GD&T preferred).
  • Proven experience designing tooling and fixturing for industrial assembly processes.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and apply sound design principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Siemens NX/Unigraphics experience is a plus
  • GD&T preferred

Responsibilities

  • Translate conceptual direction into complete design packages, including layouts, schematics, detail and assembly drawings, and parts lists.
  • Work independently or with engineers to develop dimensional and functional specifications for customer-supplied components.
  • Lead and guide drafting personnel on assignments, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Present and defend design decisions, explaining assumptions, constraints, and analyses.
  • Collaborate with Development, Product, and Manufacturing Engineers, as well as external vendors, throughout the design process.
  • Prepare complex designs and redesigns, including repackaging of existing products.
  • Perform engineering calculations for sizing, performance, tolerance, and assembly.
  • Select components, materials, and processes; design tools and fixtures as needed.
  • Review and check the work of junior drafters.
  • Support production teams in resolving manufacturing issues and optimizing production control configurations.
  • Ensure timely completion of all assigned projects.
