Senior DDI Engineer

Orion Innovation•New York, NY

About The Position

Orion Innovation is a premier, award-winning, global business and technology services firm. Orion delivers game-changing business transformation and product development rooted in digital strategy, experience design, and engineering, with a unique combination of agility, scale, and maturity. We work with a wide range of clients across many industries including financial services, professional services, telecommunications and media, consumer products, automotive, industrial automation, professional sports and entertainment, life sciences, ecommerce, and education. Project Overview: General tasks are to work as part of the migration team on a daily basis supporting migrations and operations / engineering tasks supporting the QIP and Bluecat environment through transition. Must work well in a team format. This resource will work with other supporting teams as well as business application owners as part of this work effort.

Requirements

  • Senior-level DDI experience, with strong knowledge of QIP internals (objects, subnets, profiles, and its Sybase/Oracle database) and how it differs from native BIND.
  • Strong knowledge of BlueCat Address Manager and BlueCat DNS/DHCP Server, including Configurations, Blocks, Subnets, Devices, and User-Defined Fields.
  • Experience running stepped (multi-pass) data migrations, including data normalization and high-volume bulk imports.
  • DNS coexistence and query routing during a dual-platform transition.
  • DHCP lease migration strategy and rollback/failback planning.
  • Advanced DNS: views, dynamic DNS across legacy and new servers, DNSSEC, and traffic monitoring.
  • Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for data checks and delta merges.
  • Linux appliance administration and BlueCat service deployment roles.
  • Works well in a team and with application owners.

Nice To Haves

  • API mapping from QIP to BlueCat: rewriting custom QIP REST/SOAP endpoints for BlueCat REST v2.
  • DevOps and ITSM integration experience with Ansible, Terraform, and ServiceNow.
  • Hybrid and multi-cloud DNS (AWS Route 53, Azure DNS), including avoiding IP overlap and forwarding sprawl.
  • Prior large financial-services enterprise experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support migration, engineering, and operations work in the QIP and BlueCat environments throughout the transition.
  • Run multi-pass migrations: export QIP data, write transformation scripts, and clean up orphaned records, inconsistent TTLs, overlapping IP blocks, and misconfigured DHCP options before import.
  • Map QIP objects and custom properties to BlueCat’s object hierarchy and User-Defined Fields, then run bulk imports and validate the import logs.
  • Manage DNS coexistence and query routing during the transition using BlueCat Edge or BIND forwarding rules, while keeping lookups to the legacy system working.
  • Migrate DHCP scopes without IP conflicts by shortening legacy lease times before cutover and managing active lease hand-offs.
  • Design and validate rollback and failback plans for each phased site cutover.
  • Inventory custom QIP REST/SOAP integrations and rewrite them against BlueCat’s REST v2 API.
  • Integrate BlueCat with Ansible, Terraform, and ServiceNow so automated provisioning keeps working after migration.
  • Coordinate with supporting infrastructure teams and application owners.
